PAMLICO ANIMAL HOSPITAL PA Veterinarian Assistant in Washington, North Carolina

Pamlico Animal Hospital in Washington, NC has an opening for a veterinary assistant. This position provides support to our Doctors and involves a lot of animal restraint, animal handling, and client communication.

Primary Responsibilities: This is NOT a job where you will be playing with puppies and kittens all day!

Patient Care - Walk, feed, change litter, clean runs and kennels, clean up after dogs and cats. Administer medications as needed. Restraint- Restrain patients in a safe, caring, and effective manner. Radiology - Assist in taking radiographs. Exam Rooms - Assist with physical examinations and patient assessment, patient histories, client communication and education. Computers- Use an electronic computer system to record medical notes, lab results, and document patient findings. Accurately prepare client invoices for services performed. Laboratory - Collect and prepare lab samples, such as blood, urine, fecal, ear cytologies. Operation of Idexx lab equipment. Pharmacy - Knowledge of medications, heartworm/flea/tick prevention. Properly fill prescriptions and dispense medications.

Required Qualifications:

At least 18 years of age. Reliable transportation. Ability to lift up to 50lbs. Flexibility in hours, including but not limited to, evenings, weekends and holidays. A strong work ethic and positive attitude. Ability to arrive on time and ready to work upon arrival. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Compassion towards animals. Excellent Customer Service and Communication skills. A self-starter with the desire to continue to advance ones knowledge and skillset. Ability to receive in a professional manner constructive feedback to maintain hospital efficiency. Working knowledge of computers; experience with Cornerstone PMS and IDEXX lab equipment is a plus. Team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments.
