As the Principal of Government and Public Affairs for NIKE North America DC, you’ll be a critical member of the Nike Government & Public Affairs team focused on supporting the business and enabling the brand in the United States and Canada.

You will partner with the different corporate and functional teams within Nike North America and throughout the Nike matrix to help deliver on Nike’s policy and legislative agenda. You’ll leverage and mobilize Nike resources to promote, protect, and defend Nike’s policy interests and needs.

This role is a perfect fit for those with a background in government and public affairs, including strategic engagement with governments and external stakeholders, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage a multitude of issues and projects in a fast-paced environment. The position is located in Washington, DC.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Responsible for helping develop and drive Nike’s public policy and political agenda at the national level.

  • Work closely with the North America Government & Public Affairs teams, as well as business and legal teams including trade, tax, digital, sustainability, product safety, data security, privacy, and community affairs.

  • Demonstrate subject matter expertise and the ability to be conversant on Nike’s priority policy issues in the U.S., especially tax, trade, digital, privacy, and retail.

  • Manage the NIKE Political Action Committee.

  • Leverage Nike assets, research, innovation, and team expertise to secure policy goals.

  • Monitor and provide intelligence to the business on regulatory and legislative activity.

  • Engage in regular communications and outreach to external stakeholders, trade associations, diplomatic community, among others, to help advance Nike's policy goals.

  • Continuously develop and maintain a network of relationships with decision makers at various levels as well as their influencers (including NGOs, coalitions, industry associations).

  • Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate internally and externally and influence policy and initiatives in different branches of government.

  • Knowledge and experience complying with ethics, lobbying, and campaign finance reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher level of education required.

  • Minimum 8 years of government & public affairs experience spanning the public and private sectors.

  • Demonstrated track record of building legislative and policy agendas and leveraging relationships to deliver identified policy outcomes.

  • Capacity to think strategically and relentlessly prioritize to focus on the legislative and regulatory items that will have the largest impact to Nike’s business.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Participation in and passion for sports preferred.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish beneficial.

  • Ability to represent the company publicly in a variety of professional settings.

  • Ability to work in bipartisan manner with various government stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to respond to unanticipated business needs and work as a team player.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and influencing skills.

  • Capacity to synthesize large amounts of complex information into straightforward, concise reports.

  • Experience with PowerPoint and building and delivering presentations desired.
