Robert Half International General Accountant in WASHINGTON, District Of Columbia

Accountemps is looking to find a talented, efficient Staff Accountant to join an esteemed organization. In this role, you will have responsibility over the preparation of journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance, and general ledger reconciliation. During the monthly close, you'll have responsibility over many aspects of internal reporting. This position will also require you to participate in compliance, as well as communicate with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and review schedules for the reporting processes. The majority of time spent in this position involves producing Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. This multi-faceted, challenging long term temporary opportunity is at a Washington, District of Columbia based company where effort is rewarded and the environment is thriving.

Your responsibilities

  • Carry out fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation

  • Oversee the creation of monthly balance sheet and income statement analyses for reporting to management

  • Complete month end close, journal entries, without supervision

  • Ad-hoc tasks and special projects, as needed

  • Aid in implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls under SOX and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP

  • Assist in monthly financial close workbook preparation, including annual closing process

  • Maintain monthly payment schedules

  • Offer descriptions of a large number of financial data and communicate insights in a useful and understandable manner

  • Be responsible for account reconciliations including prepaid expenses, payroll, and other assignments

  • Take part in various department-wide initiatives

  • BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics

  • Comprehensive knowledge of PeopleSoft Financial Management

  • Attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement

  • Self-starter and strong ethical standards

  • Recent and relevant accounting experience

  • Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment

  • Experience with ERP systems

  • Outstanding organizational, written and verbal communication skills required

  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases

  • Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines

  • Proficient with spreadsheets and databases

  • Sharp, analytical thinking abilities, always seeking to draw connections and identify the "why"
