SMX is seeking creative technical problem solvers who can design and develop solutions with our clients. We are looking for a Cloud Engineer who has hands-on experience with using AWS technologies that support applications related to data analytics, data warehousing, and business intelligence. This person will be closely collaborating with other data analytics professionals to produce creative solutions that ensure cloud orchestration and automation capability is operating based on target SLAs with minimal downtime. This is a full-time position with on-site work performed at a client’s office located in Washington, D.C. with possibility for some flexibility to work remote. Active Top Secret clearance required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop cloud formation templates to build immutable infrastructure on AWS

  • Able to work in an agile, cross-functional team

  • Develop AWS lambda functions in Python or other languages for operational or business functional purposes Evaluate, respond to, and resolve AWS service issues leveraging AWS support when needed

  • Drive technical innovation and efficiency in infrastructure operations via automation and orchestration Conduct capacity planning analysis and cloud budget planning

  • Manage the monitoring, updating, optimization, redundancy, stability of cloud systems

  • Manage AWS services such as IAM, EC2, S3, VPC, Lambda, SNS, Cloudwatch, Redshift, RDS, Config, ECS, EKS, ALB, security groups

  • Work with AWS engineers on Kubernetes (EKS), ECS and Docker containers

  • Assist other teams with provisioning and getting appropriate access to AWS resources.

  • Work with the team to estimate the cost footprint of new AWS resources and services and conduct general forecasts for our AWS architecture.

  • Support AWS infrastructure changes during planned maintenance windows, as well as ad-hoc support for unplanned outages.

  • Develop system documentation for ATO

Required skills and qualifications

  • 10 years of relevant experience

  • Dedication to innovative, sophisticated designs and collaborative problem-solving

  • Cloud monitoring tools I.e. CloudWatch, Splunk, etc.

  • Networking I.e. TCP/IP, DNS, etc.

  • Application security via encryption and SSL

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

  • AWS CloudFormation

  • AWS Architecture

  • AWS DevOps and Development

  • Top Secret Clearance

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with AWS

  • AWS Certification (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer)
