Microsoft Corporation Infrastructure Deployment Engineer (Network) in Washington D.C., District Of Columbia

Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers Microsoft's cloud services. The team is responsible for designing, building, and operating our unified global datacenters; managing the demand planning and capacity utilization of our unified infrastructure; and responsible for all the operations needed to run the physical infrastructure (including supply chain, hardware, power, security, and workflow teams). We focus on smart growth with an emphasis on automation, data driven engineering, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability.

We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Our infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than 100 datacenters and 1 million servers. Our portfolio is built and managed by a team of subject matter experts working 24/7/365 to support services for more than 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses in over 90 countries worldwide.

At the forefront of the action in CO+I is the Critical Environment Instrumentation Builds Fulfillment team (CEIBFF)!

CEIBFF is responsible for deploying and delivering global Critical Environment (CE) infrastructure supporting the Construction and Commissioning of Microsoft’s global Datacenters. The team delivers mission-critical telemetry to business partners supporting monitoring the health of the Datacenters.

Our team delivers infrastructure providing global datacenter capacity. We are looking for an Infrastructure Deployment Engineer (Network) to help deliver infrastructure that enables monitoring of Critical Environment systems. This role is responsible for implementing, delivering, and providing commissioning support for Critical Environment infrastructure enabling Datacenter Capacity for customers.

Responsibilities

  • You will collaborate within and across partner teams by proactively and systematically sharing information. You’ll also support your work with others by proactively managing dependencies.

  • You will respond to incidents by identifying the level of impact, troubleshooting basic issues, deploying the appropriate fixes, and implementing automations to prevent recurring issues. You’ll also follow prescriptive guidance for security, privacy, and compliance standards.

  • You will improve the development and operations of systems, platforms, or product features by sharing insights and best practices. You’ll do this by participating in design reviews, incident drills and debriefs, and regular meetings.

  • You will support global commissioning enabling datacenter monitoring for health and stability.

  • You will create documentation to support and maintain project infrastructure.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years’ experience in designing, deploying, and supporting global networks.

  • 2+ years’ experience with Cisco switches, routers, etc. for configuration and troubleshooting. Any experience in Arista, Moxa, Siemens, FS and Juniper switches a plus.

  • 2+ years’ experience building out tooling and managing network devices centrally.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 5+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or system engineering

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 1+ year(s) technical experience working with large-scale cloud or distributed systems.

  • Management Information Systems (MIS), or other industry or product specific Engineering Certifications.

  • Experience with HP hardware for set up and troubleshooting.

  • Demonstrated experience for transitioning manual operational processes to automation while leveraging DevOps principles.

  • Ability to manage, prioritize and successfully execute multiple concurrent projects.

Service Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
