Parkview North Hospital Clinical Lab Assistant in Warsaw, Indiana

Summary

Performs phlebotomy, arterial draws and point of care testing. Prepares specimens for referral to other laboratories. Inventories, orders and stocks lab supplies. Performs waived and moderately complex laboratory testing, accurately following laboratory procedures for test performance, quality control, reagent preparation, and instrument maintenance. Processes registrations for all patients. Conducts professional patient interviews obtaining demographic, financial and biographical information. Processes registrations in an efficient, accurate and timely manner. Performs EKG procedures, documenting electrophysiological variations of the heart muscle. Procedures include diagnostic EKG's, stress procedures, event monitors, Holter monitors, and ambulatory BP monitors. Assures highest level of quality for the interpreting physician to make an accurate diagnosis.

Education

Must be a high school graduate or the equivalent with a GED. Must successfully complete Parkview Health Lab support services and Clinical Lab assistant classes by the end of the first year of employment. Must meet one of the following requirements: Associate Degree in a laboratory science such as Chemistry, Microbiology or Biology; OR Certified phlebotomist; OR Vet tech; OR EMT/Paramedic; OR Certified Medical Assistant; OR other patient care related experience (as evaluated by hiring leader). Patient Access classes must be completed and successfully passed during initial training period. Any specific procedures done that require additional training must be completed following those class guidelines and time frames. Must successfully complete the 12 Lead EKG training course within 3 months of hire into the position. NOTE: Certified graduates of a recognized Clinical or Medical Lab Assistant program will not need to complete the Lab Support Service or Clinical Lab Assistant classes upon hire.

Licensure/Certification

Phlebotomy Certification preferred. CPR required (provided by Parkview).

Experience

Previous clinical lab experience preferred.

Other Qualifications

Medical terminology and essential computer skills and knowledge of electronic medical records recommended. Good verbal and written communication skills required. Typing test required. Must be able to work rotating weekend/holiday schedules as needed. Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
