Junior Systems Engineer (Automation)

Location: Warrington

Our Automation teams deliver projects in various industries including Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Food & Beverage, Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, Energy/Renewables, Data Centres and Utilities.

Our teams across Chesterfield, Fareham and Warrington deliver solutions using a wide array of technology including Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, AVEVA, Ignition and many more.

As part of our continued growth in Automation, we are looking for a Junior System Engineer to join our Gas project delivery team in Warrington.

The Junior Systems Engineer will:

  • Be a committed and enthusiastic member of the team, taking responsibility for successfully delivering project solutions to the agreed scope in accordance with company procedures whilst meeting budgetary and time-scale targets.

  • Be pro-active and strive for high quality as standard.

    Work with Senior Engineer on adopting a right first time philosophy and identifying any risks or issues within the chosen approach

    Role

  • Working within a project team to learn technical and project skills and taking responsibility for packages of work

  • Work as directed by the Lead Engineer and Project Manager

  • Responsible for meeting the technical and quality requirements of projects

  • Enthusiastic about engineering and learning new technologies

  • Enthusiastic to learn quality processes and procedure

  • Develop reusable modules by standardisation and modularization of systems where appropriate

  • Adhere to the business Health and Safety policies

    Functions

    The Junior Systems Engineer is normally expected to undertake the following:

  • Develop project modules. (Modules as identified in the design – PLC code modules, SCADA scripts, Mimics, communications drivers, etc.)

  • Report on progress of all assigned activities to Lead Engineer or Project Manager

  • Identify any deviations from agreed functionality or scope and notify Lead Engineer or Project Manager

  • Support outline design, upfront design studies and requirement definition for clients

  • Contribute to development of Functional Design Specifications

  • Contribute to development of Detail Design Specifications

  • Contribute to development of test specification & design testing methodology

  • Contribute to development of site work documentation (risk assessment, method statement, site test documentation)

  • Contribute to preparation of Operation & Maintenance documentation

  • Undertake full integrated system testing and customer acceptance testing

  • Support Senior/Lead Engineer with commissioning duties

    Experience

    Experience of some or all of the following is desirable:

  • PLC and SCADA experience with Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, AVEVA or Ignition

  • IEC 61131 programming languages

  • Awareness of Industrial Protocols (OPC, IEC 61850, Profinet, Modbus, etc)

  • Virtualised platforms such as VMware & ESXi

    The following skills are desired:

  • Strong report writing skills

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Good presentation skills

  • Testing and fault finding skills

    Qualifications

  • A Degree or HND/HNC in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Control Systems or relevant discipline
