Position Title:    Senior Power System Specialist Engineer 

 

Job Description: Identify and pursue technology development opportunities and advance the state-of-the-art in the areas of advanced controls and operation to improve microgrid control product line. Assume technical engineering responsibility for the product line testing. Execute all design, development, and related technical testing required to develop and maintain the microgrid control product. Review test methods required by standards and develop procedures as needed to provide repeatable test practices. Incorporate changes to improve safety, quality, effectiveness, and efficiency. Serve as technical point of contact for customers and work with engineering and manufacturing team to troubleshoot customer problems and advance microgrid control product requirements and maintain quality and develop future features & functions. Create HIL and CHIL tests and models using RTDS and Single-board computers to test Microgrid control product. Write, and debug Codesys/Python/C/C++ with an emphasis on generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable. Troubleshoot and debug issues with test equipment. Maintain updated knowledge of microgrid integration and control standards, UL, NEC, CSA, NEMA, CANENA, IEEE, IEC. Discover, evaluate and implement core technologies on new potential applications. Investigate, integrate and validate new product designs abiding by time based milestones. Implement state of the art concepts and solutions into quick prototypes, feasibility studies, specifications, and eventually into larger systems and product components. Develop and apply tools for advanced system modeling and simulation. Some examples of tools include computer simulations, databases, analysis algorithms computational methodologies. by performing system modeling, simulations and rapid prototyping utilizing multiple software and hardware tools (Matlab/Simulink, PSCAD, CYME, DSPACE, Python, C++, OPAL-RT and/or RTDS). Engage and provide mentorship to new talent (interns) and global teams. Travel 15% of the time, both domestic and international, to provide product customer support and for occasional team meetings.

 

Job Requirements: Requires a Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Energy Engineering or Software Engineering or a directly related field plus five (5) years of experience in product testing and design or R&D development environment working in Electrical Distribution, DER, Renewables, and Microgrid field. Experience must include:

 

Five (5) years of experience in the following (experience may be gained concurrently):

  • Experience in testing techniques, including HIL and CHIL testing using RTDS real-time systems, power system test equipment, and measurement instrumentation.
  • Working with microgrid control projects or power systems automation projects or working with PLC programming.
  • Experience with software, embedded systems, hardware, power systems logic controller, or substation automation controller development.
  • Programming tools such as Python, SQL, C++, C#, or equivalent.
  • Software requirements, development, and analysis.

     

Four (4) years of experience in the following (experience may be gained concurrently):

  • Computer-Aided Design software such as AutoCAD or Inventor.
  • Experience with product engineering, systems engineering, reliability engineering, failure analysis, systems test engineering, or product quality engineering.

     

40 hours/week, 9:00am-5:00pm.
