Position summary

The Director, Technical Sourcing Engineering, will lead a technical team focused on strategic costs initiatives in support of productivity targets. The role will partner closely with the Research and Development leaders within the divisions to find opportunities for reducing product costs. The team will be engaged in design reviews during New Product Introductions for supplier selection efforts, should cost analysis, and technical engagements to support costs out initiatives. This role will also drive project prioritization across divisions for cost saving optimization. The role requires a deep understanding of product design, procurement, as well as a strong focus on cost analysis, financial modeling, and stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effective leadership to establish and promote a vision for the team that’s aligned with the company’s strategy and best interests while delivering cost out initiatives on time and with superior quality.

  • Supports commodity team as required on developing commodity strategy documents, and 3-5 year growth playbook plans.

  • Ensure technical sourcing engineer coverage for NPI activities focused on delivering high-quality, low-cost products and support in all commercial negotiations and supplier selections within assigned commodities.

  • Set an effective and scalable organizational structure and define clear roles and responsibilities for the group, manage workloads and career development, and set clear direction for assigned projects.

  • Manage teams responsible for cost reduction and revenue protection activities.

  • Engages with procurement leadership to support assessment of the technical landscape and identifies emerging trends for assigned commodities, including the creation and maintenance of technical playbooks.

  • Responsible for assessing supplier technical capability and collaborates with assigned suppliers to build continual pipeline of supplier improvement initiatives

  • Finds opportunities, in partnership with R&D, Procurement, Operations for product tear- down events in support of emerging market evaluation, and product optimization.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of relevant industry experience in engineering, with prior experience in cost engineering.

  • Must have at least 5 years as a people leader, preferably at the Director level.

  • Bachelor’s degree required in engineering, mechanical engineering degree preferred.

  • Exceptional communication skills. Able to deliver clear messages to a wide variety of audiences.

  • Extensive experience in managing teams in large geographical regions.

  • Proven success leading cost transformation initiatives in complex environments.

  • Excellent conceptual problem-solving skills with ability to bring pragmatic scope and structure to vaguely defined problems, and manage execution.

  • High energy, team oriented and results focused.

  • Strong leadership skills with a ability to influence different styles.

  • Experienced in navigating ambiguity and change with an entrepreneurial mindset.

  • Demonstrated track record in the development & implementation of strategic plans
