BAE Systems SPY Radar Electronics Technician in Wallops Island, Virginia

Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking experienced SPY Radar Technician who is ready to join our dynamic team of engineers, technologists, and military veterans. This position will be located in Wallops Island, VA at the Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC). The SCSC provides live and simulated integrated warfare capabilities in a net-centric, maritime environment to develop, test, evaluate and conduct fleet operations and training for the warfighter. The AEGIS Complex provides support to AEGIS and AEGIS Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Lifetime Support Engineering, Training, In-Service Engineering, Interoperability Testing, Engineering Initiatives, and Technical Research & Development required to maintain and upgrade the AEGIS and AEGIS BMD equipped fleet in war ready condition and fully capable of executing its mission.

The selected candidate will configure, initialize and maintain the SPY Signal Processors and Transmitters systems and OJT on FCS/ORTS/MK-84 systems. The candidate will also work closely with systems engineers to activate new advanced radar systems, troubleshoot and repair complex radar and AEGIS combat system casualties, support fleet readiness events and large multi-system multi-platform Operational test events.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Minimum education and years of experience required: High School/GED and at least two or more years of experience assessing, troubleshooting, leadership and performing corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance on systems and equipment. Shall be certified as a Maintenance Person in accordance with PQS 301, reference NAVEDTRA 43241-K, if not certified at time of hire, will be required to become certified within your first three months of employment.

Experience is required in one or more of the following Systems:

SPY Radar

ISSP

ASP

BSP

MMSP

MMSP-R

SPY Transmitter

Additionally, this position includes the requirement to OJT on the FCS, ORTS, MK-84, SARTIS and WDRC

Additional skills/experience required:

Knowledge of network test equipment used to evaluate and correct operational failures (multi-meters, O-Scopes, Spectrum and Network Analyzers)

Ability to perform Planned Maintenance System (PMS) procedures on SPY radar systems

Ability to conduct fault detection/fault isolation procedures on SPY radar systems

Successful candidate must be willing and able to perform in a variety of 40 hour work-week configurations, including:

  1. Monday-Friday (5 x 8): 1st Shift

  2. Monday-Friday (5 x 8): 2nd Shift

  3. Variable 4 x 10 shifts that may include weekends (4 days on/3 days off) and may be 1st or 2nd shift

  4. Sliding (5 x 8) work weeks (Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday) and may be 1st or 2nd shift

**PLEASE NOTE - These work week configurations may be scheduled on a rotational basis

Security clearance requirements: This position requires the successful candidate to be able to obtain a Secret level clearance. The criteria for obtaining and holding a clearance are driven by US government requirements. You must be a US citizen to obtain a security clearance. Selected candidate will receive a contingent offer and start date will be delayed until an interim Secret clearance is granted.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

Active DoD Secret security clearance

Navy Technical C school training or civilian/commercial equivalent in any one of the three SPY radar variants currently deployed in the fleet

UNIX-based open architecture experience; ability to understand UNIX-based program commands and local area network (LAN) theory

Experience with AEGIS BL9 AN/SPY-1 Multi Mission Signal Processor

Experience with Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Signal Processor

Knowledge of, or experience in, troubleshooting and maintaining functional equipment areas of the AEGIS Weapon System to include UYQ-70 Display equipment, ORTS or COTS-based processing systems used onboard AEGIS Ships or other military UNIX based display equipment

Experience interfacing and working closely with US Navy personnel, civilian government personnel and technical representatives from government contractors

Pay Information

This position is covered by a wage law called the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The wage range for this position is determined by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor on a contract-by-contract basis.
