Job Title: Mechanical Building Automation Project Engineer

Job Description

A Building Automation Project Engineer is responsible for the planning and execution of multiple projects and resources and serving as a subject matter expert on commissioning and consulting on project control installations. This role involves leading projects to ensure reliable control solutions, promoting safety, meeting industry standards, and ensuring that facilities operate as intended. You will work with Project Managers, Field installation teams, electrical subcontractors, other engineers, and management to successfully install and commission innovative building automation solutions tailored to the needs of the building and customer.

Responsibilities

  • Self-manage, schedule, and budget assigned project work.

  • Define, oversee, and commission the implementation of technically complex building automation systems, focusing on large networks, third-party integration, and complex systems.

  • Serve as a technical expert in system troubleshooting and definition, both remotely and on-site as needed.

  • Provide detailed information on design and operation to the field installation team.

  • Review submitted materials including DDC modules, field sensing, and control devices and associated control software algorithms to meet specifications and standards.

  • Create software and graphics solutions for specific project work as appropriate to business needs.

  • Provide troubleshooting and technical support to the operations install team.

  • Execute and manage commissioning tasks within budget.

  • Support the operations manager and field supervisor in training and mentoring team members on proper documentation development, field procedures, and HVAC and Smart Building automation.

  • Act as a liaison between the field installation team and the engineering team focused on third-party integrations.

  • Troubleshoot communications and control issues to ensure a trouble-free customer network at the completion of project installations.

Essential Skills

  • Good understanding of systems software to read, test, and make changes to logic as needed.

  • Ability to create, download, and troubleshoot basic HVAC system logic using WebCTRL and associated software.

  • Timely communication of issues with Project Managers.

  • Good working knowledge of WebCTRL software functions and utilities.

  • Basic knowledge of TCP/IP networks, including wireless technology, layout, and troubleshooting.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well in a team environment.

  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.

  • Ability to read and understand Architectural, Mechanical, and Electrical blueprints.

  • Basic experience with Microsoft software products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and other Windows products.

  • Good working knowledge of Automated Logic hardware and software.

  • Understanding of the operation and control of mechanical equipment and their control sequences.

  • Computer and networking skills to maintain their laptop and experience in commissioning Ethernet and ARC Net communications.

  • Experience in mechanical and HVAC system operation and design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 5+ years of experience in the HVAC controls industry.

  • 1+ years of experience with the Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Clean and valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to travel in excess of 25% of the typical workweek, including air travel, overnight hotel stays, and unexpected travel, as well as participating in a rotating on-call schedule.

  • Capability to climb ladders or use other lift equipment more than 8 feet above grade, and capable of lifting items up to 50lbs.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related subject (preferred).

  • Commissioning experience and an understanding of the installation and operation of Building Controls.

  • Experience with major building controls manufacturers and software programming/integration.

  • Experience dealing with multiple simultaneous challenges, requiring knowledge of various disciplines.

  • A team player who prioritizes the customer’s best interests.

  • Experience in material purchasing and handling.

  • Experience with fire protection systems, fire alarms, and sprinkler systems.

  • Experience with VPN and Global Protect.

  • Internship experience in related fields.

Work Environment

This will be a HYBRID POSITION with fieldwork and office work that can be done from home. There are two offices in the area - Chicopee and Wallingford, but the role will primarily be home-based with an expectation that 25% of it will involve fieldwork. This may require some overnight travel as the work is mainly in the northeast, but you will be kept local to CT with hotel accommodations provided and weekends at home. The offices have a positive and energetic atmosphere. Managers are supportive, easy to talk to, and have a strong vision for the company.
