Basic Function:

CNC set up and operate

Scope/Supervision:

A positive working relationship with team members, leads and supervision.

Essential Job Functions:

Responsibilities:

• Setup assigned CNC machine using established procedures to effectively produce parts.

• Utilize secondary machines (cranes, drill presses, belt sanders, polishers, inspection tools, presses, peener, etc.) as needed to complete jobs.

• Select and utilize cutting tools best suited for specific machining operations.

• Load programs using appropriate methods as needed by machine tool.

• Change all devices associated with operation of CNC lathe (collets, chucks, jaws, etc.).

• Change jigs, fixtures, tooling plates, etc. and make necessary adjustments to produce parts within specified limits.

• Setup tooling on bench or in machine as required with hand tooling or presetting instruments.

• Load tooling in machine tools as needed.

• Make final adjustments in tooling, fixtures, programs, machine and peripheral equipment to obtain a part within specified limits.

• Responsible for first piece approval of production parts and must be able to inspect and record dimensions for features generated.

• Utilize inspection equipment to maintain quality standards.

• Set up peripheral equipment (saw, rod polisher, bar feeder, linear scales).

• Modify collets, jaws or other holding devices to produce special or short run parts within specifications.

• Keep work area, clean and organized using the 5S+Safety approach.

• Support and participate in all LEAN activities

• Ability to manually deburr in cycle.

• Perform other tasks assigned to support and improve the overall operation.

• Peform TPM on machine (oil, coolant)

• Be an effective team member and perform other duties as required by supervision and as responsibilities necessitate

• Ability to operate multiple machines required.

Qualifications:

• General knowledge of and ability to edit and in some cases, create part program

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Daily attendance

• Required tools

• Knowledge of machining and blueprint reading, including basic geometric tolerancing

• Knowledge of inspection techniques, potentially including CMM (depending on job needs)

• Shop math and general problem solving skills related to machining

• Effectively setup assigned machines using established procedures

• Produce parts within specification and in an acceptable time frame

• Qualify 1st piece inspection and monitor part specifications throughout production run

• Follow established procedures for handling and storing parts and materials

• Able to stand on feet for prolonged periods of time

• Withstand repetitive movement (bending, kneeling, squatting, etc.)

• Must be able to regularly lift up to 25lbs., intermittently lift up to 40lbs., and occasionally lift up to 75lbs. with team assistance

• Keep work area clean, organized, and safe

• Follow established safety guidelines at all times including the use of appropriate PPE

• Help keep common areas (tool-crib, isle ways, cafeteria, etc.) clean, organized, and safe

• Inform management of maintenance or safety issues promptly

• Adapt to changing roles and priorities

• Support division initiatives (LEAN, safety, on time delivery, scrap reduction, setup reduction, HPT etc.)

• Be effective team member, keep positive attitude including assist co-workers as needed

• Support continuous improvement by (for one) submitting ideas to make work areas more responsive to customer needs (quality, productivity, best practices, etc.)
