Job Title: Summer Session Team Member -- Part-Time / Non-ExemptReports To: Facility ManagerSummary:

With passion and dedication to excellence, the ComEd Recreation Center is looking for Summer Session Activities Instructors. They will lead sports, fitness, games, arts and crafts along with other activities at the facility by applying proven instruction methods that both inspire and guide each and every participant regardless of age, experience, or knowledge of a wide variety of different recreational activities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides instruction and supervision to patrons in sports, games, and competitive athletics.

  • Demonstrates proper techniques and skills for recreation and athletics.

  • Adapts programs to reflect differing levels of participant skill development.

  • Provides instruction in advanced strategies of team and individual sports, physical fitness, and conditioning.

  • Provides information on rules of individual and team sports.

  • Explains basics of organized activities.

  • Enforces and promotes safety guidelines for recreation and athletic activities.

  • Resolves conflicts among participants.

  • Officiates team and individual sports.

  • Promotes sportsmanship and encourages creativity in participants.

  • Communicates constructively with participants, parents, volunteers and community.

Professional Requirements

  • Previous teaching experience in a group setting required.

  • Ability to teach fitness classes related to: Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Volleyball and General Fitness

  • Ability to teach programming for all ages and skill levels.

  • Self-motivated, with excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Punctual, reliable, organized, and responsible.

  • Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs.

  • Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to.

  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications: The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must possess current Red Cross CPR certification, Certified Instructor (ACE, AFAA) or equivalent. Additional specialty/certifications preferred. Have working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles. Have working knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, technique, and rhythm. Ability to be professional and motivate class participants. Ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members. Hours: This position requires the ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
