Senior-Level Site Civil Engineer

POWER Engineers is seeking a senior-level Site Civil Engineer to join our team supporting the electrical utility and renewable energy service areas. Our department specializes in high-performing projects with a focus on the future. Our goal is to deliver excellent projects together with a positive experience for our clients and our communities alike.

This position will report to the Rocky Mount, Virginia location with the ability to work remotely. Employees may travel to a POWER office for periodic meetings.

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

You’ll be asked to support grading and drainage/stormwater management design for new and existing electrical utility sites, renewable energy sites (solar, wind, battery storage), and access road design, permitting, and construction support.

  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables in support of civil/site engineering projects:

o AutoCAD/AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation

o Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling

o Stormwater management calculations, design, and modeling

o Floodplain modeling and analysis

o Site layout, grading, drainage designs, and drawings

o Bill of materials

o Construction specifications

  • Perform detailed engineering reviews of the work submitted by others

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to others.

  • Coordinate regularly with the Project Engineer/Manager to ensure project scope, budget, and quality expectations are met

Required Education/Experience

  • BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering) degree from an accredited university

  • Professional Engineer License

  • Experience in site design for utilities, industrial facilities, municipal infrastructure, storm drainage and stormwater management design, site grading, roadway and utility design, sanitary sewer design and analysis, construction specification development and development of construction bid packages

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation experience

  • Eight (8) + years of experience in civil site/design as outlined above

  • The candidate must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel

  • Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite

  • Candidate is legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Desired Education/Experience

  • Stormwater management and hydraulic modeling software (Autodesk SSA, SWMM, HEC-RAS, etc.) experience in drainage, detention, and stormwater conveyance

  • Electric utility substation design experience is a plus

  • Managerial and leadership skills a plus
