Cognosante is recruiting for a Modeling and Simulation Engineer – Expert to support upcoming work with the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) electronic health record modernization (EHRM) initiative, which includes sustainment of the legacy VistA system and implementation of Oracle Cerner. Under this role, candidates will design and build data-driven models and simulations to inform decision-making regarding risk and issue management, drive improvements to EHRM applications and business processes, and support testing. Competitive candidates will have experience with modeling and simulation constructs for complex multi-network models utilizing multiple systems and scenarios, including developing reports and briefings for healthcare and IT leaders. This position is contingent upon contract award and can be part-time (minimum 60%) to full-time.
What will I get to do?
Develop study proposals, methods, and project plans
Lead modeling and simulation study planning and execution
Develop reports and briefings for VHA leaders summarizing results and recommendations
Define risks and benefits to team to support informed decision-making
Interface with product and process owners to develop action plans for improvements
Apply SAFe/Agile/Lean methods to improve efficiency and effectiveness of products and processes
Travel up to 25% to support on-site observations related to EHRM go-live events
Coordinating internally and externally with customers and teams to identify model requirements, simulation goals, and variables to be applied
Meet regularly with EHRM governance bodies to identify priorities and challenges
What qualifications do I need?
Master’s degree in a healthcare, IT, data science, or engineering field
Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience supporting healthcare-related projects
Demonstrated expert-level knowledge of modeling and simulation methods
Previous experience in guiding redesigns to minimize negative impacts of technology implementation
Demonstrated knowledge of rules and regulations for handling of PHI and PII
Excellent communications skills and experience briefing healthcare leaders
What additional characteristics will help me thrive?
Current or recent VHA work experience and active PIV card
Extensive experience working with VHA and/or healthcare data sets
Previous experience with Oracle Cerner products preferred
SAFe, Agile, and/or Lean certification
Training or certification human centered design (HCD) and/or user-experience (UX) design

Compensation
$160,696.43 - $257,118.66
The pay range for this job is determined by various factors, including but not necessarily limited to location, responsibilities of the job, and alignment with market data. When determining a salary for this role, the following factors may be taken into consideration - contract-specific affordability, education, knowledge, skills, competencies and experience. The estimate displayed represents the salary range for this position and is just one component of Cognosante’s total compensation package for employees.
