GCI Communication Corp IT Data Engineer IV in United States

GCI's IT Data Engineer IV will build and maintain the supporting framework for enterprise activities such as acquiring, transforming, and delivering data into a format that can be easily analyzed. Develop, maintain, and test infrastructures for analytics across the company. Leverage existing data infrastructure to fulfil all data-related requests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AT ALL LEVELS:

Data Engineering Functions:

  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture.

  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.

  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources.

  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency, and other key business performance metrics.

  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.

  • Root cause analysis, documenting process

Additional Job Requirements:

At a senior level, this position supports the strategic design and maintenance of data pipelines and support for analytics. Provide project leadership for the company’s data analytics initiatives and serves as a mentor for junior data engineers and BI analytics team members for the GCI corporate analysts. Requires the ability to perform highly complex and diverse duties under deadlines and constraints. Functions using software engineering principles. Works on the most complex projects and processes and a has excellent command of scripting languages with the ability to solve complex coding problems and knowledge of big data.

Additional Competencies:

  • Function as lead or mentor over less experienced individuals.

  • Ability to lead large-scale data analytics initiatives.

  • Must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products.

  • Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities (e.g., consensus building and goal setting, planning, development).

  • In-depth knowledge and successful implementation of current best practices for data analytics.

  • Highly proficient with at least two programming languages.

  • Experience working with a cloud provider.

  • Ability to successfully design solutions.

  • Manage scope, sequence, and resources on large scale efforts.

  • Highly proficient in any combination of the skills below:

  • Big data tools: Databricks, Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, etc.

  • Relational SQL and NoSQL databases, such as SQL Server and Cosmos DB, etc.

  • Data pipeline and workflow management tools: Azure Data Factory, Oozie, Azkaban, Luigi, Airflow, etc.

  • Cloud services: Azure, EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift, etc.

  • Stream-processing systems: Storm, Spark-Streaming, etc.

  • Object-oriented/ functional languages: Java, C#, C++, Scala, etc.

  • Analytics languages such as: R, Python, SAS, etc.

  • Complex data visualizations.

  • Collect, organize, and analyze data on a large scale.

  • Identify and communicate trends and insights.

  • Lead non-technical individuals in requirements and design sessions.

  • Analytics tools: Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, Excel [advanced level], etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: *A combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software/Computer Engineering, or relevant field. *

  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in corporate data analytics, Real-time analytics and visualization tools, Data collection and/or data pipelines or related background. *

Preferred:

  • Experience in large database systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL.

  • Other telecom industry or job specific certifications.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS:

This position may require access to reliable transportation for occasional travel, such as between retail store locations, offices, worksites, or other locations as needed.
