Position Summary

The Dean of Arts & Sciences is responsible for overseeing program development and curriculum design as well as all related course materials/equipment. The Dean of Arts & Sciences will track and control the academic and operational aspects of programs offered within their respective assignment, interact with program directors at the campuses and advisory board members, and ensure compliance with accreditation and licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

Excellence in Academics

  • Recognizes and responds to changing needs of our students and industry with updates and enhancements to curriculum and course delivery that improve student outcomes. Assesses current curriculum and leads the effort to amend/add courses to satisfy Criminal Justice needs.

  • Leads campuses in the recruitment and timely approval of properly credentialed and experienced faculty.

  • Evaluates hardware, software, and technologies used to support the delivery of program and individual course objectives.

    Commitment to Students

  • Conducts regular assessment activities as part of the institutional effectiveness process and uses results to drive conti nuous improvement of the student experience.

  • Facilitates training and professional development for faculty that enhance their ability to provide an engaging learning experience for students.

    Professionalism in Action

  • Communicates changes in curriculum and course resources to stakeholders in a timely manner through multiple channels.

  • Establishes and maintains a mechanism for sharing of best practices for teaching courses within the school. Recruits and manages appropriate support personnel, such as curriculum chairs and SMEs.

  • Develops academic and operational plans for new and existing programs/courses.

    Innovation in Education

  • Routinely and methodically reviews emerging technologies and educational resources; introduces new resources to faculty who are early adopters.

  • Stays abreast of trends in the field and ensures curriculum reflects trends such that the programs are distinctive and competitive.

  • Supports and leads faculty in the adoption of new technology

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience • Doctoral degree in field or appropriate academic qualifications within the particular discipline. • Minimum of five (5) years of successful and documented teaching experience or minimum of five (5) years of successful and documented experience in a management or supervisory level position within an academic department Skills/Abilities • Curriculum, program development and/or instructional design background preferred. • Leadership skills including the ability to manage projects at a distance in an academic organization. • Demonstrated experience with academic planning and program development. • Strong organizational, project management and analytical skills with a detail orientation. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. • Motivated, self-starter and ability to work independently. • Familiarity with regional accreditation preferred.
