PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in the operation of high-pressure boilers and plant equipment to provide steam and compressed air to the customer in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Inspects, operates and adjusts pumps, turbines and equipment associated with safe plant operations.

  • Performs boiler and water treatment analyses, as necessary, to ensure efficient plant operations.

  • Makes adjustments as necessary.

  • Performs major repairs and maintenance on boilers and auxiliary equipment to prevent shutdown and ensure proper operation in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Cleans and performs minor building maintenance to enhance a safe work environment.

  • Performs other operating functions as needed to ensure uninterrupted operation of the plant.

  • Performs other related functions as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Dependent on assignment, work schedule may involve rotating shifts (8 or 12 hours) to include some weekends and holidays and/or straight days.

  • Overtime can be either voluntary or mandatory. Scheduled overtime is an element of the rotating shift assignment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Vo-tech training or equivalent as a boiler operator.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three years of work in a large, high pressure steam heating plant or in high pressure boiler operation.

  • Licenses/Certifications: Second Class B MN Boiler engineer’s license; valid driver’s license.

  • Other: Must successfully complete pre-employment physical after a conditional job offer has been made.
