About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [SC00]

Drive and participate in the broad configuration, administration, support, and enhancement of FE’s Outage Management software. This includes the OMS Dashboard, other custom applications, vendor software and associated interfaces with other core FEU applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Support, configure, and develop within the application architecture (vendor or custom developed)

  • Perform software installation and patching, as needed, based on application roadmaps and issue resolution

  • Perform configuration tasks within core software; where needed develop and enhance configuration within the application’s programming language(s)

  • Identify opportunities to automate processes to maintain platform performance and availability

  • Solve complex problems and troubleshoot functionality for issue identification (including debugging), and collaborate with other IT personnel towards resolution

  • Work with software vendors on issue identification/resolution, installation, and patching for vendor based solutions

  • Properly control and maintain security of the application according to FE standards

  • Follow core IT Change Management and SOx processes

  • Provide insight into application data

  • Understand system interface design & data flows to support complex inbound and outbound interfaces (both internal & external)

  • Develop data queries and reporting solutions to meet customer requirements

  • Understand the structure and design of the application’s database

  • Provide data analysis and reports based on the needs of the business users

  • Supporting and improving business processes

  • Be an active participant in a collaborative work environment gathering/refining requirements from business stakeholders for new development projects

  • Develop technical designs and estimates to meet the business needs while supporting the company’s overall IT direction and standards

  • Drive the entire system testing lifecycle

  • Create and execute comprehensive unit, system, and integration test plans

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Associate Degree in Computer Science, Computer/Management Information Systems, or similar discipline is required. A Bachelor's degree in another field with relevant industry experience in configuration, administration, and support of software will be considered.

  • Minimum 2 years of related experience. Related experience includes, but is not limited to:

  • Software configuration, administration, and support.

  • Subject matter expert within a FirstEnergy business process & corresponding software

  • Experience with relational databases, including reading and revising data through software applications (e.g. TOAD, SSMS) and writing. SQL skills are essential.

  • Experience developing against Oracle

  • Development experience leveraging the .NET framework (4.0 or later) in C#

  • Development experience with Angular v12 or greater

  • Familiarity with Git version control

  • Highly motivated to work independently and productively within a virtual environment (i.e. working with remote co-workers using virtual technologies).

  • Analytical skills to resolve problems and think creatively

  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and be available for call-in and after-hours support (7x24 operations) when needed. This includes travel to Company sites when necessary.

  • Good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Ability to learn new concepts in information technology, learn the characteristics of new systems and update skills to adapt to changing technology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Has worked and been an active participant on a Scrum team or similar Agile methodology
