What You’ll Do

As a Manufacturing Product Engineer at Teradata, your primary focus will be working with development, manufacturing, and product management teams to answer product configuration questions and trade compliance inquiries. The ideal candidate is highly trained in mechanical engineering, power/packaging engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related fields. This person must be an outstanding communicator and have a proven track record leading products thru development and product release. The product engineer will ultimately be responsible for product lifecycle management (PLM) and be the technical interface between component vendors and product development teams.

Who You’ll Work With

On our team, we evaluate, design, release to manufacturing, and provide lifecycle support for on-premises MPP systems. This is a small team dedicated to the success of the hardware platforms used to deliver scalable enterprise analytics for our customers. You’ll be reporting to the Sr. Manager of platform products and working with the platform project manager for work assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Product Engineering: Collaborate closely with internal engineering and design teams to translate product requirements into manufacturable designs.

  • Act as a liaison between internal development teams and product management teams to provide technical answers related to product configurations and ordering options.

  • Interface with contract manufacturing groups, providing technical support, overseeing production processes, and ensuring adherence to quality standards.

  • Product Lifecycle Management: Lead and participate in the implementation and utilization of PLM systems to manage product data, revisions, and documentation throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Create, maintain, and optimize Bills of Materials (BOMs) and product structures. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of BOMs across various product lines and versions.

What Makes You a Qualified Candidate

  • Four or more years of experience in project management, project engineering, or project planning (scope, schedule, cost, quality)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to effectively engage and collaborate with diverse teams, vendors, and stakeholders.

  • Strong attention to detail to maintain accurate and up-to-date product documentation, ensuring alignment with design changes and manufacturing requirements.

  • Specific expertise in electrical and mechanical engineering pertaining to datacenter components is highly valued. The ideal candidate should possess practical experience or academic background in the design, development, and packaging of datacenter hardware components such as servers, processors, storage systems, and power distribution solutions.

  • Ability to analyze/assist with hardware power failures, power quality, and mechanical failures.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related fields.

  • Experience with computer system components including processor, memory, storage, and adapters.

  • Familiarity with 19-inch rack components including rack itself, servers, storages, switches, PDUs, cablings and how they are installed.

  • Understanding of Worldwide power utility, power quality, power redundancy, as well as power distribution among components to optimize the power usage.

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and quality assurance guidelines and best practices

  • Desirable expertise includes a comprehensive understanding of global trade regulations concerning the import of technology products. Experience or familiarity with organizations such as the Information Technology Industry Council (ITIC) is advantageous.
