Vectrus HVAC-R Mechanic in Iraq

Overview

This position will be physically located in Iraq in support of LOGCAP

The HVAC-R Mechanic is responsible for providing maintenance, repair and replacement of refrigeration equipment.

Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

  • Installs heating/air conditioning/refrigeration equipment and systems.

  • Inspects systems and their components (e.g. air conditioning, heating and refrigeration units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety and identifying necessary repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.

  • Diagnoses problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning / refrigeration systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and replacement needs.

  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance as needed and/or assigned for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing functioning of HVAC and refrigeration systems.

  • Cleans air conditioning and heating units (e.g. coils, condensation pans, drain lines, cooling towers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring units are operating correctly.

  • Repairs various items, systems and/or components for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.

  • Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items to complete the necessary installation/repair.

  • Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.

  • Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with health and safety regulations.

  • Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.

  • Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

  • Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Degree preferred.

  • Certifications:

  • EPA Type I & II required. (EPA 608 Universal will be accepted)

  • Experience:

  • A minimum of (3) three years of experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy and light equipment, including one (1) year of journey-level experience.

  • Ability to operate equipment used in the installation, repair and maintenance on HVAC equipment.

  • Preparing and maintaining accurate records.

  • Ability to safely handle hazardous materials.

  • Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent’s, and/or ratios.

  • Ability to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions.

  • Military experience in a contingency environment and knowledge and experience working with government contracts preferred.

  • OCN Experience/Qualifications

  • Trade school diploma or equivalent required

  • HVAC-R Trade and EPA certification required

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently

  • Skills:

  • Excellent computer, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills required.

  • Computer skills include a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Project.

  • Requires excellent organizational skills; with the ability to work under fast paced and adverse conditions.

  • Specific knowledge of the following:

  • Using and caring for hand and power tools

  • Repair and maintain walk-in freezers and coolers

  • Repair and maintain reach-in freezers and coolers

  • Repair and maintain refrigerated serving lines

  • Repair and maintain ice machines

  • Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes:

  • Indoor air monitoring equipment

  • Air conditioning and heating codes

  • Hazards and safety precautions.

  • Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances.

  • Problem solving is required to identify issues and create actions plans.

  • Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

  • Adapting to changing work priorities

  • Communicating with diverse groups

  • Meeting deadlines and schedules

  • Working as part of a team

  • Working with constant interruptions

  • Displaying mechanical aptitude

  • Working Conditions:

  • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, duty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months).

  • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices. Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
