Role Overview

ELL Accelerator is a product innovation team responsible for creating the next generation of language learning and language assessment technologies, using emerging technologies such as generative AI, ML, AR, and VR. The team works in quick-paced sprints, building and testing multiple prototypes for new language learning and assessment use cases, focusing on a mix of Horizon 3 experimental experiments and Horizon 1 MVP development.

We’re looking for a passionate and creative conversation designer with extensive experience designing and developing conversational voice-user-interfaces. The future of language learning is conversational, and you will help us create it by pioneering world-class conversational experiences.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create world-class conversational experiences by doing generative user research, storyboarding, designing and developing conversational prototypes and flows for language learners

  • Testing and refining conversational flows for language learning and assessment.

  • Design conceptual prototypes of conversational experiences for language learning and assessment.

  • Be the go-to expert for latest conversational authoring tools, conversational design prototyping and conversation testing.

  • Run usability and concept tests of conversational experiences to refine the use case and optimize conversational flows.

  • Work closely with UX/UI designers and AI scientists to identify best conversational AI technologies and design conversational interfaces.

  • Continuously demo your work to product managers, learning designers, product designers and business leaders to demonstrate the feasibility and potential of new conversational use cases.

  • Experiment and prototype novel ways to leverage conversational AI and conversational interactions for language learning and assessments.

Experience Required

  • Hands-on experience developing conversational products including chatbots, Alexa skills or other voice-user-interfaces.

  • Futurist, passionate about new technologies and excited to re-imagine the world of education

  • Previous experience in product design, UX/UI design, or HCI.

  • Experience with a wide range of design tools, including tools for designing and developing conversations (e.g. VoiceFlow, Botpress, Dialogue Flow, Amazon Lex) as well as non-conversational design and prototyping tools such as Figma.

  • Experience with low-code/no-code prototyping and development tools for websites, web apps or mobile apps.

  • Proven proficiency in prompt engineering with at least one LLM.

  • Deep expertise in conversational AI and generative AI tools, applications, models and architectures.

  • Experience finding and analyzing technical documentation for conversational AI and dialogue management tools.

  • Experience testing, troubleshooting and QA-ing conversational experiences.

  • Experience with integrations, end points and APIs to create complex conversational flows that are powered by additional services and data sources.

  • Familiarity with latest emerging generative AI techniques such as fine-tuning and RAG.

  • Ability to comfortable and independently navigate a wide spectrum of open-source and commercial models and tools to determine the best tool for creating conversational products.

  • Ability to use API documentation for connecting different services to the conversational flows.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Front-end development

  • Degree (or equivalent) in UX Design, Interaction Design, Human Factors, Computer Science or ML Engineering is a big plus

  • Experience designing educational technologies for learning or assessment.
