We are looking for Credit Underwriters to join our Business Centre team in the centre of Manchester. The underwriters will focus on our growing SME business, providing Commercial Lines of Credit.

These Underwriters will draft and present credit proposals, maintaining objective and independent views within the credit process and complying with Credit Policy, guidelines, and processes.

The Underwriters will also get the opportunity to make effective underwriting decisions for SME and consumer proposals within approved mandate authority and agreed Service Level Agreements.

  • Perform credit reviews, research industry, detailed analysis of company accounts and customer-related information for all new proposals and reviews of existing customers.

  • Analysing all factors for assessing the credit, Anti Money Laundering & fraud risk, in line with CONC guidelines and latest European anti-Money laundering directives

  • Work to timelines of credit proposals and reviews, in accordance with pre-agreed SLAs

  • Collaborate with colleagues from the Risk department, as well as the Sales teams and brokers

  • Be confident to build, develop, and strengthen relationships with existing and potential customers in order to maximise future opportunities for the Business.

  • Assist in the production of underwriting management reports, process enhancements and supporting regular portfolio reviews

  • Ability to review assess credit proposals by other members of staff and support with upskilling the wider team.

  • .We would like to hear from Underwriters who have 3+ years’ experience credit underwriting SME borrowers, ideally in asset finance including experience underwriting businesses in a wide variety of sectors.

  • Proven ability to assess the creditworthiness of counterparties including analysing financial statements and other external research materials.

  • Ability to write structured credit proposals in line with deadlines.

  • Ability to create and leverage strong relationships both internally and externally, including with end-customers, bringing gravitas to any negotiations.

  • Possess strong communication skills, enabling effective interfacing with senior leaders, external parties and internal work partners.

  • Excellent attention to detail and accountable

  • Team player with self-motivation, a ‘can do, attitude and drive to succeed.

  • High level of personal and professional integrity
