As part of our technology hub, the Software Engineering Manager will play a key role in shaping the future of technology and innovation in ELL. You will be responsible for one or more ELL digital products and the delivery of our Software Engineering team. You will contribute through all the software development journey, being accountable for the throughput of your teams and the technical strategy to meet the business needs in short and long term. Job Description: As a Senior Software Engineering Manager , you will play a vital role in leading and inspiring different teams of software engineers to deliver high-quality software solutions and will be responsible for overseeing the entire software development lifecycle, from planning and design to implementation and maintenance. Your technical expertise and managerial skills will be crucial in ensuring the successful execution of technical solutions, meeting deadlines, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide strong leadership and mentoring to two remote software engineering teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Encourage the professional growth of team members through training, mentorship, and access to educational resources.

  • Set clear expectations, performance goals, and development plans for team members, conducting regular one-on-one meetings and performance evaluations.

  • Foster collaboration and effective communication between the two teams, promoting knowledge sharing and creating synergies.

  • Ensure that the teams are aligned with the company's overall technical strategy and goals.

  • Manage staffing, recruitment, and onboarding processes for your teams, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and resources to succeed.

  • Co-Responsible for a digital product, together with the business product manager, taking ownership of the technical strategy, ensuring that this is aligned to future product roadmap and priorities.

  • Collaborate with your business product manager to establish connections and streamline processes with other important areas in the company like Sales, Marketing, Operations or Customer Service.

  • Maintain a deep understanding of the technologies, tools, and best practices relevant to the products and platforms your teams are working on.

  • Be a reference to the rest of the organization for your product and platforms, collaborating with your stakeholders to understand better our business and customer needs and understand how our technology could help to fulfill those.

  • Adopt and promote the usage of Agile frameworks within the teams to enhance development processes while building the environment to ensure that your teams are well-prepared to embrace change, helping them to thrive while they enjoy what they do.

  • Uphold and promote a diverse and inclusive work environment where all team members feel valued, respected, and empowered.

  • Track and report on roadmap progress, budget, and capacity allocation, ensuring timely and successful value delivery.

  • Identify potential risks and challenges related to key initiatives for your product and develop mitigation strategies to minimize their impact.

  • Drive continuous improvement through retrospectives and regular process evaluations.

  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for your teams, regularly reporting progress to stakeholders and senior management.

  • Implement data-driven decision-making and process improvement based on KPI analysis.

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality software products by implementing rigorous quality assurance processes and promoting a culture of testing and code review within the teams.

  • Monitor and improve the existing software development processes within your teams, ensuring adherence to best practices and standards.

  • Responsible for the budget of the solution(s), understanding the total cost of ownership, making the right financial choices.

  • Understand security and compliance requirements and drive their fulfilment with Product and software engineering teams.

  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and methodologies, and recommend process improvements and technical solutions accordingly.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in software engineering principles, development processes, technologies, extreme development methodologies and practices and industry trends for Development and QA.

  • Strong leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.

  • Working experience in Agile practices, product and project management principles.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels. Able to communicate technical concepts to non-technical individuals.

  • Experience with software development and DevOps/DevSecOps tools and practices, such as version control systems, issue tracking systems, CI/CD pipelines, Continous deployment, Feature Flags, Domain Driven Design, Events Driven Architecture, Clean Code, etc.

  • Ability to make strategic decisions, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple teams and initiatives simultaneously.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.

  • A passion for staying up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends.

  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is desirable.

  • Hands-on experience with programming languages such as Java, PHP, Kotlin, Python, or C++ would be beneficial.
