UL, LLC Electronics Project Engineer – Hazardous Locations (m/f/d) in Germany

As our global footprint continues to spread across the world, we are looking for an experienced Electronics Project Engineer – Hazardous Locations (m/f/d) to join our team in Braunschweig (Germany). Alternative locations are in Warrington (UK), Milan (Italy) or Ballerup (Denmark).

You will be working in a hybrid mode, managing customer projects and traveling to conduct or witness tests at client sites (10-15% of the time). As a project engineer in this role, you are ideally experienced with the IEC/EN 60079 series of standards and you are very familiar with the Intrinsic Safety standard IEC/EN 60079-11. You will manage projects by analyzing project scope and determining project specifications, establishing test programs for product investigations and preparing reports for clients.

  • Independently manage projects in the Hazardous Locations (HazLoc) segment, develop a preliminary plan of investigation and determine project specifications such as cost, time, test plan and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction. Projects may include regular travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites.

  • Communicate with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, convey project cost and negotiate completion date and sample requirements

  • Act to address client concerns and to resolve client issues.

  • Provide technical assistance to clients in reference to product inspection and follow-up services.

  • Coordinate laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians, scheduling and reviewing work of Laboratory Technicians and support staff and establishing completion dates.

  • Coordinate administrative aspects of project management and communicate project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports.

  • Serve as Project Handler of record and may sign as Reviewer of record as assigned.

  • An Electronics Engineering or „Meister Elektrotechnik“ degree is highly desirable

  • Solid experience in an engineering field is ideal, but motivated young professionals with an Electronics background could also develop into the role

  • Prior experience in product certification (IEC/EN 60079 series standards) or design/development of hazardous locations equipment and/ or experience in certification to UL/CSA standards and IEC/EN 60079-11 (Intrinsic Safety) is highly desirable

  • Work experience in an engineering environment of drawing office practice, factory production and quality control methods or systems

  • Demonstrated ability to apply project-management concepts in area of expertise

  • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset, paired with customer-centricity

  • Fluent spoken and written German and English (Italian or Danish are a plus)
