Amec Foster Wheeler Deck Crew in Brunei
Wood is recruiting Deck crew to join our growing team in Brunei.
Purpose / Role
- Provide deck crew services in line with Company Procedures
Key aims and objectives
- Ensure all work is carried out in a safe and productive manner in line with company and client procedures
Prime responsibilities and duties
Experienced in all types of slinging and lifting, crane lifts and can work as an effective team member in large or small groups depending on the activity.
Ability to work at height in an appropriate manner
Familiar with various lifting techniques and the use of equipment such as chain hoist, shackles, slings pendants etc.
Recognition and safe use of both manila and wire ropes wires and have the skill to make all required knots, bends and hitches.
Slinging and lifting of all types of structural steel work, Pipework and Equipment.
Attendance during loading and unloading of supply vessels.
Work in hazardous areas under ‘permit to work’ regulations.
An understanding of the statutory lifting regulations.
Be aware of and practice fully the requirement for total safety attitude in all operations
Be prepared to assist all other trades within his capability in the performance of operations being carried out
Prepare site for slinging and lifting operations
Conduct pre-use inspections and maintain equipment
Understanding of development of basic lifting plans
Willing to carry out additional duties like cleaning, handling of material and equipment as directed by Supervisor
Committed to Safety and Company Procedures in all tasks
Coordinate Crane Operator operations
Participate in the Lifting Plan development, implementation and review
Fully conversant in the art of crane lift and rigging/ slinging techniques and must be able to define and control all rigging and lifting classifications
Be aware of and practice in full the requirements of total safety in all operations to achieve best results at all times
Selection of correct slings and shackles for all lifts
Removal from service and destruction of any slings which require replacement
Slinging and controlling lifts by the crane in safe and efficient manner with hand signals or radio communications.
Able to determine suitable slinging methods and implementing the task to safely and effectively position all pipework equipment etc.
Responsible for ensuring that all lifting accessories are properly maintained, inspected and that all certification is current prior to use.
Must have a good working understanding of the statutory lifting regulations
Support Nationalisation Programme and development of local personnel
Ensure Risk Assessment and Tool Box Talks are completed and implemented at the start of each shift.
Allied occasional duties
Participate and contribute to Amec Foster Wheeler /Client Emergency Response procedure and process.
Participate and contribute in Amec Foster Wheeler nationalisation/personnel development programmes
Be aware of and practice fully the requirement for safety attitude in all operations
Assist other trades (within capability)

Experience
Essential:
- Must have a minimum of 3 years Deck crew rigging experience onboard fixed platforms and floating vessels. He or she should be fit, able to work at heights.
Desirable:
Demonstrable more than 5 years’ experience offshore
Preferably a Bruneian

Ability to communicate effectively with team members and provide direction to ensure subordinate staff comply with operating manual and relevant procedures
Flexible – able to comply with company and client requirements
Ability to work with other disciplines
Confident – ability to work unsupervised in execution of task
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
Has a desire to learn and develop within the role and also develop others as part of nationalisation programme
Competencies – generic
Possesses an understanding in spoken and written English
Possesses a good understanding of safe working practises, policies and regulations and can demonstrate commitment to safe working at all times
Comply with operational and safety manuals and procedures
Competencies – technical
He must be familiar with the correct way to attach bulldog clips and other fittings to wire ropes.
He should be familiar with mooring operations and the rigging requirement regarding handling anchors, pendant buoys and wires.
Can demonstrate a high standard in completion of tasks associated with the role of Rigger as defined in associated job specification.
Ability to recognise change

Must be aware of the workings of most types of equipment used in construction work and be familiar with safe working loads, care, proper storage of equipment
He must be able to splice an eye on a manila and synthetic fibre and wire rope, and be fully competent with all knots, bends and hitches.
Contribute to maintaining a strong safety culture within Client operations
Execute safe work processes and comply with relevant health, safety (occupational & process) and environmental excellence procedures and controls within area of responsibility to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance and a responsible environmental attitude.
Initiate regular clearing and cleaning activities
Guide and support to junior staff in the execution of their responsibilities in line with company Competency Assurance Program (CDCA) and Training Matrix
Undertake regular on-the-job training to ensure transfer of knowledge
Uphold and role-model client’s values and leadership behaviours
Proactively take responsibility for self-progression by keeping abreast with latest developments, knowledge and innovations in relevant field of expertise
