Job Description Summary

The Role is reporting to the Head of Project Engineering Leader, the successful candidate will lead and manage team of project engineering managers in the HVDC PDG COE. Own the HVDC project delivery and drive project operations. Activities that are conducted to better understand or ultimately meet the expectations of the customer Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a project discipline.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Includes direct people management responsibility including staffing and performance development. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.

  • Serves as the technical leader/manager to develop a scope of work and provide technical leadership and interface with Proposal Management, Cost Estimating, Partners, Customers, GE Product Engineering, Sourcing, Engineering sub-contractors.

  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market

  • Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead projects and tenders with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues

  • To support business development, implement standards, improved project engineering practices and to ensure that they are followed. Input to monitoring and control of project engineering activities, analysing the data and taking actions to improve project execution.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Engineering degree (Engineering School, University or other) or equivalent knowledge /experience with major experience in the energy sector for complex EPC projects, engineering disciplines, and with significant experience of people supervision (subcontractors, sub teams etc)

  • Strong focus on developing technical and leadership competence in staff, ensuring comprehensive training and development plans are in place and enacted

  • Take a pro-active approach to ensuring Health & Safety is paramount, including conducting Risk Assessments where necessary

Other Competencies

  • Knowledge of high voltage electrical equipment, electrical installation constrains and taking initiative and autonomy in the position

  • Strong customer interface experience, ability to influence others and lead teams, and excellent interpersonal.

  • Extensive Experience and focused on Project Delivery - “project centric”

  • As part of the engineering leadership team, the successful candidate will be transparent, collaborative and supportive of wider engineering activities and initiatives to ensure the overall engineering function and HVDC business is successful

  • Ability to lead large-scale, high-impact initiatives, Proven ability to identify and resolve issues, and ability to work in English speaking environment
