Ripley County Sheriff`s Department Jail Officer in Versailles, Indiana

Beginning salary is $39,444 a year. This position is a 4 day work week ( two 12 hour shifts, two 8 hour shifts.) with every other weekend off. Requirements - ability to meet all county hiring requirements

  • high school diploma or GED,
  • Completion of ILEA for correctional officers,
  • must be 18 years, and
  • must possess a valid drivers license.

  • interpersonal skills.

Roles and Responsibilities are as follows;

  • Maintains interior security of jail, including monitoring door controls, continually monitoring location of jail officers on floor duty. Monitor inmate activities, conduction patrols, locking/unlocking external security doors and cells.
  • Performing bookings of inmates including photographing, fingerprinting, entering required information into the computer, completing required forms and intake reports, and conducting inmate searches for weapons and contraband.
  • Oversees inmates in allowable activities, such as phone calls, counsel, and visitations.
  • Transports and or escorts inmates to various locations, such as court, DOC, medical facilities/ hospitals.
  • Maintain jail logs, incident reports, daily activity reports, booking/releasing records.
  • Fingerprints general public for background checks.
  • Attends seminars and in service training as required.
  • Ensures compliance with jail rules and regulations, including recording and reporting inappropriate behavior to appropriate department personnel and taking necessary action to correct any problems that arise.
  • Properly secures and/or physically restrains violent and uncontrollable inmates as situations demand.
