As a Clinical Risk Manager, you will manage the organization's daily risk management program. You will assists in managing the assigned Clinical Risk Management (CRM) program on a day-to-day basis. The manager takes a lead role in the mentoring and development of new CRM team members. This role collaborates with leadership throughout the enterprise to develop and maintain an effective CCHS CRM infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Safety Event Reporting System (SERS) Event Management: Appropriately manages event reports for assigned Institutes or Hospitals per CRM process, accurately codes, investigates and analyzes trending data

  • Conducts and facilitates Root Cause Analyses (RCA); identifies root cause and causal factors of events

  • Identifies organizational risk through RCA trend analysis, themes, and patterns; identifies/articulates opportunities for improvement

  • Facilitates implementation of standardized and highly reliable processes

  • Prepares professional reports and documentation required for CRM role on a timely basis

  • Works collaboratively with Institute/Hospital, Patient Safety, Quality, and Patient Experience team members, throughout the enterprise as partners in safety

  • Serves as mentor/preceptor for new team members

  • Assists with coaching healthcare providers or facility leaders regarding unanticipated outcomes

  • Identifies and effectively communicates with members of the Law and Enterprise Risk and Insurance (ERI) Departments regarding potential quality of care, safety, patient experience, regulatory and insurance concerns

  • Follows-up with patients and families when appropriate and works proactively toward early resolution with other appropriate parties as necessary

  • Serves as resource for risk related issues/information to facilitate adherence to standards, policies, rules and regulations

  • Participates in Enterprise Committees representing Clinical Risk Management

  • Develops, presents education sessions upon request or with identified need. Maintains visibility in the organization

  • Participates in Institute/Hospital Committees representing Clinical Risk Management and leads committees or projects related to risk mitigation or improving patient safety

  • On-call responsibilities to provide 24/7 CRM consultation coverage per established CRM department process

  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Registered Nursing licensure preferred

  • Other licensed clinicians will be considered with commensurate education, knowledge & skills, and acquired work experience

  • Master's or other advanced degree strongly preferred

  • Bachelor's degree with at least seven years of CRM experience will be considered

Certifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) or other healthcare discipline licensure strongly preferred

  • Current certification as Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management required

  • Current FASHRM, DFASHRM, CPPS or CPHQ certification, or other advanced education in the field of quality preferred

Work Experience:

  • Minimum five years clinical experience required. Leadership experience preferred.

  • Minimum five years of experience in Clinical Risk Management; other field related experience with commensurate education, knowledge & skills, and acquired work experience will be considered

  • Has demonstrated ability to successfully fill lead CRM role and supervisory responsibilities

  • Requires strong effective communication and influencing skills with proven ability to collaborate with leadership throughout the enterprise

  • Requires strong critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment, take appropriate actions, and have demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.

  • Requires frequent computer entry, standing, walking and sitting.

  • Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.

  • Normal or corrected hearing and speech.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures
