Description

Under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager, provides direct and/or indirect nursing care to hospital patients in a general or specialized nursing unit; and to perform related work as required.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in high acuity Oncology Clinics, ability to contribute to the success of the Adult Hematology-Oncology Clinic, particularly in the crucial areas of patient care, administration of chemo drugs, and non-chemo infusion treatments. Additionally, the incumbent will have experience successfully navigating high volume patient care environments with an understanding of the critical nature of administering chemotherapy and non-chemo infusion treatments, ensuring the utmost precision and adherence to safety protocols, while maintaining the highest standards that align with the organization's goals.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

The Per Diem Nurse is distinguished from the Registered Nurse classification in that Per Diem Nurses are scheduled to work on an as-needed basis (intermittent) to supplement staffing needs. Nursing practice at this level demonstrates the application of intermediate assessment skills; independent judgment and action; and adherence to patient privacy, confidentiality, and security guidelines. Incumbents are expected to work at the full scope of their licensure providing specialized clinical care with a decreasing amount of supervision commensurate with their experience.

PAYROLL TITLE: Per Diem Registered Nurse III

What we offer:

  • Educational Incentive: Incumbents may be eligible for an educational incentive of $1.25/hour (Bachelor's degree) OR $1.75 (Master's degree) based on completion of a Bachelor's or Master's degree that is not required for the classification.

  • Bilingual Premium Pay: Per Diem assignments which require the use of bilingual skills shall be eligible for bilingual premium pay at the I, II, or III level. Premiums are as followed: Bilingual Level I = $.65/hour; Bilingual Level II = $.80/hour; Bilingual Level III = $.90/hour;

  • Certification Pay: $0.813 per hour based on scheduled work week hours for each qualified certification up to a maximum of five (5) certifications.

  • Evening Shift Differential - 7.5%

  • Night Shift Differential – 15%

  • Weekend Shift Differential - $2.00 per hour

  • Charge Nurse Premium Pay - $1.00 per hour

  • Float Nurse Premium Pay - $2.50 per hour

  • Standby Premium Pay – ¼ of regular hourly wage or Federal minimum wage (whichever is greater)

  • Difficult to Recruit (“DTR”) Assignment Premium: The Director-Human Resources may authorize an increase up to and including five percent (5%) of base rate of pay (CNA Per Diem Unit MOA (Sec. 809).

Per Diem Registered Nurse III is represented by the California Nurses Association (CNA) and is eligible for overtime compensation.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-term), Intermittent, and Extra Help vacancies for this position only. There is currently one (1) Intermittent (Per Diem) vacancy.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Utilizing nursing process, plans and participates in providing daily patient care;

  • Follows prescribed doctors' orders concerning treatments and medications;

  • Makes patient observations, records and reports all pertinent information; provides follow-through on judgement;

  • Assists doctors in examination and treatment;

  • Provides unit organization and is responsible for completion of all delegated and indicated nursing duties by the end of the assigned shift;

  • Assists in training, supervision and evaluation of ancillary personnel and in the training of new personnel;

  • In Ambulatory Medicine areas, provides physician assistance and patient care as indicated and required; and

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Typical Qualifications

These are entrance requirements to the exam process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE

  • Requires at least five (5) years of experience as a Cancer Nurse Navigator or related experience in an Ambulatory Care Oncology Clinic.

  • Successful completion of the Health Care Agency Pharmacology examination within three (3) months of employment is mandatory.

These employees may be appointed to work on specialized short-term projects such as hospital accreditation or on other projects that require specialized administrative duties and responsibilities.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Must possess and maintain a current valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California, or licensure in another state with California licensure pending.

  • Must possess a valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) Certificate prior to the first day of employment.

  • Day shift availability

  • Prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer; and

  • Medicines and narcotics.

Skill in the following:

  • Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word skills

Ability to do the following:

  • Plan and organize nursing care;

  • Train and supervise non-professional staff;

  • Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relations with other staff members, patients and their families through the diagnosis and treatment;

  • Maintain confidentiality of patient/client information;

  • Work effectively in different healthcare and/or hospital departments or shifts as required; and

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
