Western Forest Products is hiring for an experienced Production Forklift Operator at our Fruit Valley Planer and Kiln Site in Vancouver, WA

Shifts: 6:00am - 4:30pm (must be available to work a variety of 4 x 10 hour shifts, Mondays - Saturdays, and occasional Sundays)

Successful candidates will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing as well as background checks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Unstack and transport units of rough lumber to be staged at the production line and load staged units onto the production line;
  • Transport finished lumber units from the production line to the shipping yard;    
  • Perform additional production tasks beyond forklift operation;      
  • Safely and efficiently load, unload and build outgoing loads of lumber into storage facilities, onto semi-trailer trucks and rail cars, securing all outgoing loads in appropriate and safe stacking method. In some locations, automated loading systems are also utilized;
  • Coordinate load pulling and loading to ensuring all orders are prepared, loaded for drivers and verified;
  • Prepare and transport internally used wood products;
  • Assist with loading/unloading of trucks as well as assisting with packaging process, doing quality checks on finished packages;
  • Dump waste bins into larger dumpsters and waste conveyers;
  • Complete daily preventative maintenance checklists and wash and fuel forklifts as needed;
  • Perform auxiliary tasks such as using plow attachment to move debris;
  • Communicate with other operators and supervisors via radio regarding issues and/or adjustments that need to be made;
  • Generates a daily list of materials and lumber replenishment, verifying quantities needed and reporting damaged products to Supervisor;
  • Safely operate banding equipment, saws and other necessary facility equipment;
  • Ensure staging areas, loading docks and bays are clean and clear of any materials, lumber or obstacles;
  • Receive and organize incoming lumber, in a timely and efficient manner completing all verification paperwork, system receipt entries and material distribution into the appropriate bins and storage locations/areas within same business day;
  • Participate and support Inventory and Inventory Control activities, maintaining organized warehouse and yard as well as counting and preparation work for inventories.

QUALIFICATIONS

3-4+ years' experience operating a Forklift in a high production, high quality manufacturing environment and preferred Forklift Certified;

Demonstrated technical knowledge of Forklift and maintenance;

A skilled driver capable of operating a forklift safely and efficiently at production speeds, ensuring the protection of our products from any potential damage;

Proficiency in managing and stabilizing challenging or delicate loads;

Physical ability to lift 50+ pounds and the ability to move, bend, twist and use staircases;

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and lead others;

Demonstrated experience utilizing safe work practices in a manufacturing or industrial setting;
