Reporting To:   Controller

Compensation Range: $50K-60K

Join VetCare on its path to becoming a leading acquirer and operator of animal hospitals in Canada! We are seeking a highly capable and motivated individual to join our dynamic, entrepreneurial team as Staff Accountant to be based in Vancouver and committed to a hybrid model (with 2-3 days per week in the office). 

Our Staff Accountant will perform the bulk of our daily accounting functions, including maintaining the general ledger, performing monthly reconciliations on key accounts, and helping to compile financial statements. Our new Staff Accountant will work directly with the Corporate Controller and other members of our corporate team in downtown Vancouver . This role is perfect for someone on the path to obtaining their CPA; as an office with multiple CPAs, we will provide mentorship and support through the PEP program.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

  • Transactions: Maintaining general ledger for each company in our portfolio; preparing supplier payments; assisting with payroll entries.

  • Reporting: Supporting the Controller in preparing year-end consolidated financial statements; working with external advisors, auditors.

  • Compliance : Preparing GST/PST returns and other tax filings.

  • Monitoring : Preparing monthly reconciliations for key accounts.

  • Payroll: Assist with the processing of bi-weekly payroll for each company.

  • M&A: Support the financial integration of newly acquired companies.

  • Work closely with the broader Finance Team  to support the unit’s mandate and to prioritize projects while defining processes and procedures to increase efficiency.

    Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (or equivalent).

  • Work experience in a staff accounting or bookkeeping position is valuable, but not required.

  • Ability to learn quickly to meet project and business demands in a fast-paced environment.

  •  A strong understanding of the ASPE accounting framework, including consolidations and acquisitions.

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel and Word.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects at once.

  • Ability to build relationships with various stakeholders including the corporate team, practice-level teams, hospital owners and outside advisors and professionals.

  • The ability to work on and complete tasks independently.
