Overview

Mechanism of Chemoreflex and Baroreflex alterations causinq Postural Tachvcardia Syndrome in POTS patients with orthostatic hvperpnea and hypocapnia

The job will involve participation in most aspects of research pertinentto our current NIH funding which involves real time measurements of blood flow and the effects of drugs in out-patient human subjects, peroneal microneurography, cerebral oximetry, and performing tilt table tests on research subjects.

Responsibilities

  1. Tilt table testing in subjects and patients. This will include operating:
  • Laser-Doppler Flowmetry

  • Transcranial/Doppler Ultrasound

  • Cerebral Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS)

  • Real-time heart rate, blood pressure, and blood flow measurement in subjects using computer methods

  • Impedance and venous occlusion plethysmography

  • Respiratory monitoring

    1. Assist with conduct of tilt-table testing procedures

    2. Execution of procedures involving measurements cardio-respiratory dynamics in human research subjects

    3. Assist in preparation of drugs and solutions to be used in experimental procedures

Qualifications

(A) Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree (B) Licenses or Certifications: N/A (C) Technical/Computer Skills:

  • EKG

  • Instruction in Transcranial Doppler Ultrasound and NIRS

  • various biomedical monitoring devices

  • Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe acrobat, comfort with graphic programs, internet search/pub med.

    (D) Prior Experience:

  • At least 1 year prior research experience.

  • Able to perform moderate to complex lab procedures with occasional guidance.

  • Must have understanding of scientific literature and research goals.

  • Computer familiarity and solution formulation, equipment and methods are likely unfamiliar to most technical personnel.Instruction in all techniques and procedures will be given.

USD $45,000.00/Yr.
