*POSITION INFORMATION*: Seasonal Recreation Facilities Repairer Blackstone River and Canal Heritage State Park Start Date: 5/5/24 End Date:10/26/24 (25 weeks @ 40hrs.) About the Department of Conservation and Recreation: The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, campgrounds, swimming pools, golf courses, skating rinks, trails and parkways. The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks applicants for the position Seasonal Recreation Facilities Repairer. A cover letter and resume expressing your interest in this position must be submitted as part of the application process. These documents must be specifically attached“as relevant”to the requisition for which you are applying. Duties: Inspects recreation facilities to determine the need for repair work and performs maintenance and repair of all facilities and infrastructure including but not limited to painting, mowing, brush trimming, tree removal and building and equipment maintenance. Reviews blueprints, plans, schematics and/or technical manuals for maintenance purposes. Operates hand power tools, generators, tractors, mowers and associated equipment in connection with repair work and maintenance of bicycle trails, fire lanes, gates, fencing, buildings,and fire towers. Picks up supplies needed for maintenance and repair work. Performs related duties as assigned. Knowledge of the types and uses of small measurement devices such as calipers, levels, rulers, steel squares and gauges. Skill in the use of hand-held power tools such as drills and chain saws, and small hand tools such as hammers, wrenches,scaffolding, and safety harnesses. Ability to read, write and comprehend the English language. Ability to give oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others. Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans, specifications, blueprints and drawings. Ability to understand and apply the policies, procedures, specifications, standards and guidelines governing assigned unit activities. Ability to lift and carry heavy objects. Ability to exercise sound judgment. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity. Physical stamina and endurance. Ability to work at heights in excess of 40’ above the ground. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of the types and uses of hand-held power tools such as drills and electric hand saws and small hand tools such as hammers and wrenches. Would be comfortable and willing to be trained in electrical issues and in the maintenance of electrical systems in the campground. First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the maintenance, repair and/or installation of heating, electrical and/or plumbing systems or in the maintenance and/or repair of swimming pool or ice skating rink equipment, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A certificate issued by a recognized technical institute indicating proficiency in a related trade or craft may be substituted for the required experience.
