Speech Language Pathologist - Rehab and Nursing Center - Full Time - Days

Department: SPEECH THERAPY

Job Summary

Responsible for the planning and implementation of Speech-Language Pathology evaluation and treatment services. Evaluates communication disorders and administers therapy treatments for resident/patient problems associated with hearing, speech, language, cognitive and swallowing disorders. Maintains records, monitors progress, and counsels residents or patients and their family members.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for administration and direct application of Speech/Language Pathology treatment modalities as prescribed by a referring physician.

  • Evaluates, assesses, plans, directs and treats all residents or patients referred for speech/language pathology services. Interprets test results in accordance with standard speech/language procedures.

  • Re-evaluates patients as appropriate. Implements new treatment plans and goals as necessary.

  • Implements treatments to restore function and prevent disability following disease or injury.

  • Participates in multidisciplinary consultations.

  • Participates in performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities.

  • Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements as applicable.

  • May provide information related to departmental budget considerations in relationship to Speech Pathology needs for optimum patient care and service.

  • May assists in scheduling patient or resident visits for further evaluation and treatment.

  • Ensures all documentation and charts are complete.

  • Participates in infection control, safety and educational programs, both in the department and on an organizational wide basis.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Graduate of a college/university accredited by the American Speech and Hearing Association with a degree in Speech Language Pathology.

  • Excellent communication skills to communicate with patients, medical and house staff. Excellent assessment skills to make accurate prognosis of patient potential and guide the individual to achieve that potential.

  • Proficient with MS Office and Epic\EMR software.

PREFERRED:

  • Prior experience in a long-term care facility working as a Speech- Language Pathology (SLP)

Licensure/Certification Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Current NYS license as a Speech-Language Pathologist (or temporary permit).

  • Must hold or be eligible for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology from the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association (ASHA).
