Accu Steel Inc Structural Engineer in Urbandale, Iowa

The primary function of the Structural Engineer is to provide drawings, designs, estimates and technical assistance to Accu-Steel team members, dealers and customers. You will be expected to help optimize the design and engineering process, proactively bring new ideas and perspectives from evolving industries, and provide excellent customer and dealer support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with other designers/engineers and technical disciplines in a team environment.
  • Gain an understanding of technical design requirements for buildings and other product lines.
  • Use standard ACAD blocks to originate/check erection drawings for structural steel buildings.
  • Participate in project design and constructability reviews.
  • Read and interpret preliminary building construction documents such as drawings, customer specifications, and other documents.
  • Assist in estimating, pricing, material lists, drawings, and project coordination.
  • Prepare preliminary building plans and pricing estimates as needed for dealers and customers while complying with applicable building codes, company standards, and provided documents.
  • Prepare shop drawings and accurate material lists on sold orders.
  • Execute schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and design issues.
  • Originate/check structural and plate steel design drawings.
  • Update design and engineering standards as required.
