Instructor/Lecturer of Primary Care and Diversity Outreach

Full-time, 100%, 12-month

The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine Medical District Veterinary Clinic invites applications for a full-time (100%), 12-month Instructor/Lecturer position based in our Chicago companion animal practice. This position will be a split appointment seeing both general practice cases (60%) and organizing and overseeing College based (Diversity Equity and Inclusion) DEI initiatives in the greater Chicago-land area (40%).

MDVC is a close-knit, small animal veterinary clinic that is directly associated with the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. This candidate will also have the opportunity to work on College level DEI initiatives within the greater-Chicagoland area while developing partnerships with ISVMA, CVMA, and area school systems.

Professional Opportunities: This position will be located at the Medical District Veterinary Clinic (MDVC), which is in the Illinois Medical District, Chicago, Illinois. MDVC is well equipped with modern surgical facilities, in-house laboratory, digital radiography, digital dental radiography, and ultrasound. This position will report to the Director of the Medical District Veterinary Clinic and is available to start as soon as possible following the close of the search.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a DVM or equivalent degree. Ability to get Illinois licensure is required. Hardworking, fast paced, engaging, and excellent communication/interpersonal skills are required. Additional knowledge and skills in the areas of general medicine of dogs and cats, preventative healthcare, and practice-level surgery and dentistry are also preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates are encouraged to apply, as we serve a large Hispanic population.

Duties: The successful candidate will perform a high level of general practice and surgery while working with a team of primary care veterinarians. Applicants need to have a desire to teach and mentor veterinary students on a daily basis. Applicants need to have a strong interest in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, as this person will be spear heading the College of Veterinary Medicine Chicago based outreach. The applicant will be working and collaborating with professional veterinary organizations and local school systems on a weekly basis.
