JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are searching for a Visualization Technology Lead Engineer to join our Visualization and Decision Support Division in the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University (PSU). The selected candidate will manage complex projects, contribute to strategic objectives, mentor staff, and develop relationships to seek funding from potential sponsors in the technical domain of 3D visualization and Extended Reality (XR) .

You will:

• Manage multiple or large projects; plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the work of a major project or in a total project of moderate steps

• Make substantial contributions to determining feasibility of goals/objectives; may evaluate proposed or ongoing projects

• Create opportunities to enhance technical methodology or content through expansion of existing or development of new efforts; may extend technology into new application areas; contribute or lead in intellectual development activities

• Provide innovative problem-solving approaches to enhance organizational capabilities; use peer network to expand technical capabilities and identify new research opportunities

• Understand broad strategic objectives and contribute to them; nurtures and maintain relationships with major customers/grantors of external research and development grant funding

• Identify grant/project follow-on work and persuade customers/grantors to fund; impact customer decisions and strategies

• Initiate new project concepts and seek funding; develop technical proposals and make presentations to customers/grant sponsors

• May chair sessions at technical meetings; give papers and/or presentations; participate in external seminars, workshops, professional societies and committees

• Mentor assigned staff in the development of technical, project, and business development skills

This position will be filled at the senior or principal professional level, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Minimally requires a Masters' degree or higher in an Engineering or Science Discipline plus 10 years' related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a senior professional level. A Ph.D. is preferred.

Additional responsibilities for the principal professional level include:

  • As a recognized Visualization Technology leader present papers, lead symposia, and chair committees

  • Propose and lead new Visualization Technology initiatives and guide programs of national significance

  • Develop novel specialty engineering concepts and approaches

Required experience/knowledge includes:

  • Software and systems engineering

  • Human computer interfaces

  • Modeling and simulation

  • Visualization technologies

Preferred skills include:

  • XR content development

  • Game design

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration

$123,200.00 - $219,600.00
