JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Center for Childhood Obesity Research (CCOR) in the College of Health and Human Development at Penn State seeks an Education Program Specialist (Nutrition Educator) . The Center focuses on conducting research that will serve as the evidence base for developing successful interventions to prevent childhood obesity. The selected individual will implement CCOR’s outreach programs and research projects for low-income families under our annual Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) funding.

Position responsibilities span from conception to evaluation of CCOR's outreach and research projects, and include:

  • Providing leadership, consultation, program coordination, and technical assistance to approved SNAP-Ed partners.

  • Cultivating, developing, and maintaining partnerships with local community agencies where we offer services.

  • Planning and coordinating outreach activities held at community partner sites.

  • Performing administrative tasks related to the grant such as data quality assurance and quarterly reporting.

  • Supervising wage-payroll employees and/or student workers.

  • Preparing educational lesson plans and corresponding educational materials, including web content and presentations.

  • Delivering nutrition education to preschool and school-aged children and their caregivers.

  • Adapting curricula to fit in-person and/or virtual delivery formats.

  • Developing and facilitating training sessions for community partner agencies.

  • Maintaining regular communication with community partner staff and administration regarding programming.

  • Inventorying and purchasing materials.

  • Creating task lists and delegating work to others.

  • Assisting program manager with evaluation efforts.

  • Representing CCOR at community partner sites and events.

  • Recruiting and data collection involving human subjects in-person and/or remotely via interview, telephone, and questionnaire.

  • Attending CCOR staff meetings and statewide SNAP Ed- meetings and trainings.

  • Reviewing and maintaining program compliance

    This is a limited-term staff position, funded for one year from the date of hire, with an excellent possibility for renewal. Please note that this position may occasionally require work outside of regular business hours.

    Education and Experience Requirements:

    This position requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher, plus one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate must possess exemplary organizational, interpersonal, communication, and writing skills. Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and accurately are essential.

    Background Check Requirements:

    This position requires the following background checks in addition to the standard background check:

    Clearance Package (PA State Police Criminal History, PA Child Abuse History, FBI Fingerprints through DHS). This position requires operating a motor vehicle and requires travel as part of job duties for outreach and research purposes within central Pennsylvania. A motor vehicle record check is also required.

    Flexible Work Arrangements:

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement combining remote and onsite work. Questions about flexible work arrangements should be directed to the hiring manager.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$51,000.00 - $74,000.00
