Role Purpose

The role of Counsel/Senior Counsel, Export Compliance, within the Corporate Legal Department will be to help coordinate and support the compliance program focused on laws and regulations for export, import, and trade sanctions across NBCUniversal’s global businesses.   This role will report to the Global Deputy Chief Compliance Officer.

Job Duties

  • Serving as a subject matter expert to support compliance with applicable export and sanctions laws and regulations and operationalization of processes

  • Developing and conducting comprehensive business risk assessments to identify potential areas of vulnerability and risk and implementing risk mitigation and corrective action plans where appropriate

  • Managing government export and sanctions licenses and authorizations.

  • Advising on classification of goods and technology and applicable license requirements and exceptions

  • Collaborating with business and corporate technology teams to identify and manage controlled technology

  • Providing sound, practical and risk appropriate legal advice to internal legal and business teams on a broad range of topics including: ECCNs and classification; deemed export; customs requirements; controlled goods and technology; high risk travel; due diligence and screening guidance; and filings with government agencies.

  • Working with teams across NBCUniversal, including procurement and technology teams, to enhance systems and monitoring to support export and sanctions compliance

  • Proactively identifying, evaluating, and managing sanctions and export risks

  • Developing and executing monitoring, testing, metrics and reporting

  • Continuously enhancing and improving policies, procedures, and training

  • Working closely with Compliance colleagues to advise on relevant day-to-day business matters

  • Coordinating with Compliance counterparts at Comcast and Sky, and collaborating on other initiatives as needed

Basic Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 year of legal experience for Counsel, or 7 years of legal experience for Senior Counsel, including in-house experience, service in a top tier law firm and/or relevant government position (OFAC, BIS)

  • Must have expertise on applicable US export and sanctions regulations; working knowledge of applicable UK, EU, and other applicable regulations desired

  • A law degree from an ABA-accredited law school is required

  • Must be a member in good standing of a State Bar

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to work in New York, NY, Washington D.C, Los Angeles, CA, or Miami, FL

  • Willingness to travel occasionally and work nights and on weekends, if needed

  • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

  • This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week

  • This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary range: $140,000 - $170,000 for Counsel/ $165,000- $200,000 for Senior Counsel: both bonus and long-term incentive eligible.
