Fayette County Community Action Agency, Inc WIC Peer Counselor in UNIONTOWN, Pennsylvania

Position is a paraprofessional support person who gives basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.  Under supervision of the WIC breastfeeding coordinator, responsibilities include:  Successes completion of breastfeeding trainings to become a peer counselor; Counseling WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by telephone, home visits and/or hospital visits at scheduled intervals determined by the local WIC agency; Managing a caseload of WIC clients and making routine and periodic contacts with assigned clients; Providing basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers including telling them about the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers and assisting them with getting a good start with breastfeeding; Assisting mothers in handling common breastfeeding concerns; keeping accurate records of all contacts made with WIC clients.  Position also refers mothers according to clinic-estabished protocols, to the WIC nutritionist, breastfeeding coordinator or lactation consultant.  Ideal candidate will have successful experience breastfeeding one baby, be enthusiastic about breastfeeding and committed to helping other mothers enjoy a positive experience.  This role should also have a telephone and be willing to make phone calls from home.  Nursing babies welcome.
