The Salvation Army Performing Arts Instructor in Union, New Jersey

Overview

The Summer Performing Arts Instructors will assist the New Jersey Arts Department with the preparation and operation of the faith-based, traveling programs NJ Arts on Tour and the NJ Music and Arts Camp. The instructors will act as teachers, stagehands, and program coordinators.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and lead classes in dance, drama, timbrels, fine arts, etc. to youth and teens.

  • Lead and prepare other Arts Department programs as needed, such as technique, devotions, etc.

  • Assist in day-to-day office work- copying, filing, organizing, printing, etc.

  • Assist as a member of the tech crew for NJ Arts on Tour showcases and Music and Arts Camp finales.

  • Help create, develop, and purchase any costumes, props, sets, or materials needed.

  • Travel to the different NJ Arts on Tour locations each week using their own transportation.

  • Participate in all necessary training needed prior to the start of the NJ Arts on Tour Program.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Background in the performing arts (dance, timbrels, drama, fine arts, etc.)

  • Be able to lift and carry arts equipment- drama blocks, etc., with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Have prior experience in preparing and teaching art classes.

  • Enjoy and have prior experience working with youth (specifically ages 7-16).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be willing to support and/or lead faith-based kids’ activities and programming.

  • Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
