Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center WIC Clerk (Temporary) in Union City, California

Under the supervision of the Supervising Registered Dietitian, the WIC Clerk is responsible for coordinating the flow of information to participants and performing clerical tasks.

This is a temporary assignment to cover a leave of absence, and the duration may be up to six (6) months of employment.

This position is temporary, and full-time, Monday-Friday from 8:30am-5:30pm.

Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center is a non-profit community health center that is dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of our community by providing accessible, high quality care by integrating primary care, dental care, WIC support, mental health counseling, community health education and more.

Compensation: $25.20 - $26.46 per hour, depending on experience. This salary includes differential pay in lieu of benefits.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to WIC Federal Regulations, WIC State Policy, TVHC Personnel Policy & Procedure, and TVHC WIC Policy & Procedure.

  • Performs day-to-day administrative functions and general office duties including but not limited to word processing, copying, filing, faxing, answering phones and data entry.

  • Welcomes and greets patients/clients/visitors to the department in a manner that is helpful and friendly; determines purpose of visit and direct patients/clients/visitors to appropriate person or department(s).

  • Adheres to all Clinic policies on safety and security; maintains restricted areas safe by safeguarding keyless entry codes and computer system passwords in strict confidentiality.

  • Must exercise utmost diplomacy and tact to provide excellent customer service for patients; practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance to Clinic policies and HIPAA requirements.

  • Participates in all aspects of Screening, Processing Eligibility, Rescheduling Appointments, and Food Instrument Security and Distribution.

  • Handle, operate and maintain telephone system and other office and computer equipment.

  • Perform inventories and orders office supplies, forms, nutrition education materials.

  • Coordinates community referrals.

  • Word processing reports, policy and procedure, class curriculums, etc.

  • Completes assigned tasks related to program day to day operations.

  • Participates in assigned outreach activities.

  • Participates in program continuing education, in-services, scheduled meetings, or any related educational program.

  • Rotates among TVHC WIC sites as necessary.

  • Performs all duties and service in full compliance with TVHC’s Service Excellence Standards.

  • Performs all duties in support of successful EHR/EPM implementation.

  • Performs other duties assigned by Program Director or Supervising Dietitian including but not limited to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding in a manner that is consistent with WIC regulations, policies, and initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.

  • Education/training or work experience in computer basics and data entry preferred.

  • At least one year experience in Customer Service preferred.

  • Prior administrative or clerical experience in WIC preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality; able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards.

  • Must have the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer services and interpersonal communication skills; cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse people groups.

  • Intermediate to advanced phone skills; able to effectively relate via the telephone and in-person to serve the needs of Clinic patients/clients/visitors in a manner that is efficient and productive.

  • Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision. Proven flexibility and willingness to handle a variety of tasks.

  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends.

  • Ability to learn and understand WIC WISE Program Application.

  • Knowledge of basic math and modern office procedures.

  • Competent in word processing programs, i.e. Microsoft Programs, etc.

  • Ability to travel to designated site locations.

  • Knowledge, understanding, and sensitivity to multicultural groups, encompassing their socio-economic backgrounds.
