Position Description

At a Glance

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for aSustaining Engineerto join theFinelite Advanced Development TeaminUnion City, CA. The successful candidate develops, implements and maintains improvements to existing product designs. Ensures that the improved designs meet requirements for costs, process capability, safety, customer service, and reliability.

What Will You Do?

  • Work collaboratively with other departments, including Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing, to provide engineering support, CAD modeling, simulation, drafting and prototypes while developing product improvements

  • Utilize DFMA processes to reduce part count, lower material costs, shorten assembly time, and improve quality

  • Apply tolerance analysis to complete designs to ensure proper fit and function

  • Properly document design improvements to support purchasing, production control, and manufacturing

  • May also develop all-new product designs and/or custom, one-off product solutions

  • Other tasks and duties as assigned

    Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

  • SolidWorks and MS Office Suite

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to understand and explain technical issues to engineers and to non-technical audiences

  • Knowledge of sheet metal and aluminum extrusion manufacturing processes

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, juggling projects and deadlines

  • Ability to think creatively with minimal direction in a dynamic environment

  • Possess a goal-oriented personality driven to execute projects to closure

  • Excellent organizational, time management and administrative skills

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering; OR other Technical Degree with 2 years of work experience in Mechanical Engineering

  • PLUS 3 years of additional work experience in Mechanical Engineering

    Preferred Skills

  • Design for Manufacture and Assembly

  • Lighting industry experience

  • Experience with PDM, PLM, ERP

  • Knowledge and experience using 3D Printers and CNC
