Why this job matters

You will typically work on complex In-Life designs and deliveries out of regional hubs or T&T. May contribute to elements of WNB/C2M work being delivered through technology hubs. You'll be primarily working on solution level designs associated with specific technology and accountable for elements of a technical solution but typically works into a Responsible Design Lead. You'll need to deliver designs that adhere to Customer Solutions and Design gold standards and governance process. You'll also lead with direction on larger engagements (>5 designers) but may require support and guidance when something deviates from agreed plan. It is also important that you to recognise the business costs associated with deliveries and escalate within CS&D when something appears wrong. You will be responsible for providing a detailed summary of situations to those around and react to enquiries and present and explain technical aspects of a design to a technical audience within BT or external. The Customer Solutions Design Specialist independently executes a range of workstreams in the creation of end-to-end technical designs, ensuring that business requirements are successful translated into deliverable solutions, which meet customer needs whilst considering the impact of those solutions on all technical and business areas.

What you’ll be doing

  • Captures and executes detailed customer technical requirements and translation to detailed solution design in accordance with design methodologies as well as migration planning and implementation.

  • Reviews and validates both new developments and in-life products and services, ensuring full integration across all aspects.

  • Contributes to the improvement of design and delivery capabilities for end-to-end technical solutions.

  • Delivers customer solution design engagement and statement of work creation, including any 3rd party deliverables.

  • Supports all parties throughout the project lifecycle to determine the optimum solution design for customers.

  • Resolves solution and service issues, leads root cause analysis, troubleshooting and escalation.

  • Develops and shares with team knowledge on emerging trends and changes in customer solution design.

  • Supports the implementation of ways to improve working processes within the area of customer solution design through data analysis to identify issues and areas of improvements.

  • Identifies, evaluates, and manages risks by developing and implementing strategies, frameworks, policies, procedures, and practices.

  • Analyses business processes and workflows within the organisation and identifies new approaches to redesign business activities or optimise performance, quality and speed of processes.

  • Maintains relationships with customers, cultivating a favourable reputation by meeting customer needs in an effective and timely manner and using data analysis to track and manage the overall relationship.

  • Develops solutions which fit within the enterprise architecture in terms of information architecture, system portfolios and integration requirements.

  • Verifies that solutions will meets business and operational requirements and that the solution fits into a larger architectural strategy and underlying infrastructure.

  • Applies problem solving methods to repair failed products or processes.

  • Describes a product or service to the prospect and giving the customer an opportunity to verify facts and understand how it works.

  • Design and implementation of paths across one or more networks as well as network switching to facilitate the transfer of data.

  • Design and implementation subject matter expert knowledge of (one of these) unified communications and voice technologies and products (Cisco / Avaya / Ribbon [C20/AS/MAS/GVPP/SBC] / Nortel [Meridian] / Siemens [iSDX/HiPath] / Blackberry)
