JOB SUMMARY
Battelle’s National Security Business Unit is currently seeking candidates for a full time, permanent position as a Blast and Ballistics Researcher to provide support to government programs focused on Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) efforts in Airfield protection, Installation Resiliency, and Blast (APIRB) in support of the U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer Center. This position is located on-site at Tyndall Air Force Base, near Panama City, FL.
Active areas of research include, but are not limited to:
Protective Concepts and Systems Against Forced Entry
Blast and Ballistic Protection Systems Evaluation
Mitigation of Internal Blast Effects
Protective Systems for Infrastructure and Asset Survivability Against Cased Munitions
Blast and Ballistic Protection for Guided Munitions
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Apply experience in engineering research and analysis to understanding of explosive blast effects and blast mitigation at full-scale, reduced scale, and through modeling and testing
Performs RDT&E by compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process and material specifications
Designs experimentation procedures for evaluation of test systems, including instrumentation, and data collection from field testing
Analyze and interpret data collected. Prepare technical reports and make presentations to client, both formal and informal
THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED
BS degree in Engineering (Structural, Civil, Mechanical or similar)
0-2 years’ experience related to research and development programs. Understanding of explosive blast effects and blast mitigation is preferred. Experience with high speed cameras, instrumentation, and data analysis techniques is desirable.
Proactive, self-starter who can work independently and in a team environment
Positive attitude and eagerness to take on technical challenges
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
