Position Summary: JMT is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Project Engineer to join their Water Resources Team in Longview, Texas. The successful candidate will be responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers. U.S. Residency Required.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Lead the project development process for the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of drainage systems

  • Track effort and manage resources

  • Organize and coordinate design elements with teaming partners

  • Provide professional mentoring of EITs and Designers

  • Lead the drainage design to support development of schematic designs and PS&E in Texas

  • Support other teams when needed to accomplish company milestones.

  • Generate responses and material for SOQ’s and RFP’s

  • Active participation in professional organizations

  • Plan, schedule, conduct, provide oversight or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope

  • Analyze field survey data, maps, drawings, aerial photography and other topographical data to plan projects

  • Validate design computations

  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software like HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HY-8, or other similar software.

  • Develop construction cost estimates

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction

  • Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates

  • Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines

  • Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals

  • Attend meetings with clients

  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

Required Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

  • 3-10 years of Water Resources Experience

  • Professional Engineer License (Texas)

  • Working knowledge of HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HY-8 to generate H&H Data Sheets, Culvert Layouts, and Bridge Layouts for stream crossings

  • Working knowledge of FEMA permitting requirements

  • Knowledge of closed storm sewer system design (inlet spacing, size, laterals, and trunk lines) utilizing Geopak Drainage or similar software

  • Experience writing and preparing Drainage Reports for stream crossings

  • Experience with performing scour analysis utilizing TxDOT’s Scour Guide

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
