Job Description

BACKGROUND:

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is one of the world's leading crisis response agencies, providing life-saving assistance and supporting recovery and reconstruction for people affected by war and natural disasters. Active in public health, education, livelihoods, women's empowerment, youth development, and protection and promotion of rights, IRC assists people from harm to home.

The IRC was registered in Uganda in mid-1998 and implements rehabilitation activities in the sectors of Child and Youth Protection and development, Health, Economic recovery and Development and women protection and empowerment as well as contributing to the response to the Southern Sudanese Refugee situation. IRC Uganda has a head office in Kampala, field offices in Lamwo, Moroto, Kyaka and West Nile.

SCOPE OF WORK :

The Research Assistant is responsible for ensuring that data collection with the mystery clients is well collected, complete, accurate, and uploaded to the main server.

Under the supervision of the Senior project office, the Research assistants will:

  • Support the daily collection of data from all the health facilities and drug shops in Bidibidi that are included in the mystery client survey.

  • Conduct In-depth interviews with mystery clients and transcribe the interviews verbatim.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • · Support the mystery clients to correctly complete the mystery client survey form immediately.

  • · Maintain privacy and confidentiality of study participants and of the data collected.

  • · Support in the preparation of logistics and other requirements for data collection.

  • Attend the weekly debriefs with the research team to monitor progress

  • Compile weekly reports to the senior project officer.

  • Conduct in-depth interviews with mystery clients to determine their experience being mystery clients.

  • Transcribe the recorded interviews without changing meaning.

  • Assist in collecting data , ensuring data accuracy and completeness.

  • Ensuring that completed questionnaires are uploaded to the online server.

  • Keeping safe custody of all study properties and ensuring that the tablets are well charged before the field and are well protected.

  • Prepare and share weekly reports and summaries with the Senior Project Officer.

    Qualifications

  • University degree/diploma in social sciences, or related area of study

  • At least 3 years’ relevant work experience, with data collection

  • Proficient with computer technology and Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, and commcare data collection software

  • Strong oral and written communication skill

  • Strong organizational, and interpersonal skil

  • Fluency in English, Kakwa, Aringa is a must.

  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision while being a strong team player.
