Virgin Galactic Manager, Quality in Tustin, California

Virgin Galactic is seeking a Quality Assurance Leader for our Delta class spaceships. This individual will lead the design and manufacturing effort within Quality organization to ensure performance objectives are being met or exceeded. A critical component of this position is to provide guidance and direction for Quality Assurance and Final Assembly of Delta Class Spaceships. Interfacing with the Delta Spaceship engineering and manufacturing team will be a large portion of the work in the near term with establishing the Quality Assurance Plan for Delta Spaceship design and build.

The Quality Assurance Leader will establish a reporting structure with the following individual accountabilities:

  • Leads and directs the Quality Engineering team; ensuring that products or components meet design and reliability requirements.

  • Management and development of the skillset of the site Quality Engineering organization

  • Plan, guide, and lead compliance efforts across multiple disciplines of engineering and manufacturing.

  • Oversees quality engineering tasks to enhance product quality and to ensure high reliability and proper performance per product requirements.

  • Perform trend analyses of Quality Non-Conformance data to identify potential problem areas, evaluate corrective actions, and measure performance over.

  • Support VG’s participation in the development of industry standards and help develop a company position with subject matter.

What you bring

  • BS in Engineering

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in aerospace or defense quality, engineering and manufacturing related fields with a demonstrated track record of leading highly trained, technical personnel

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in each of the following: Using AutoCAD and Solidworks for 2D and 3D parts and assemblies, design of new tooling for shop floor trials to test the capability and repeatability of parts; reviewing customer drawings and specifications and understanding the manufacturing steps involved to make the part to print.

  • A thorough understanding of AS9100, NADCAP and FAA Part 21 standards

  • Expertise with quality assurance and continuous improvement tools, best practices, methods and approaches

  • Hands on experience with technical standards and publications, understanding of aircraft type certification or experimental aircraft certification.

  • Prior experience with ASME Y14.5 Standards, GD&T and FMEA

Preferred

  • AS9100 Lead Auditor or equivalent certification.

  • Application software – Dassault Systems 3DX, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and ETQ

  • Ability to administer the Material Review Board (MRB) system

  • Ability to collect and collate large volumes of complex data

  • Aircraft Design Assurance Standards knowledge

  • Previous OEM aircraft manufacturing or overhaul operations experience

  • Demonstrated and documented written and verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of and experience with FAA commercial space regulations is a plus

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $96,600.00–$147,300.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
