Virgin Galactic Lead, Security in Tustin, California

The Security Lead, Orange County is a highly responsible and visible role within the company. It provides tactical support to the Security Operations Manager to ensure the security of teammates, capital assets and proprietary information for the Company.

This person will work from our Tustin CA office 5x per week.

Your Mission

  • Lead physical security operations at Virgin Galactic’s Orange County locations.

  • Oversee all security operations, including access control, intrusion detection, incident response, and security information event management.

  • Develop internal controls to prevent the theft of equipment or proprietary information and ensure that employees are safe in the workplace. When security breaches occur, focus shifts from prevention to investigation and damage control.

  • Liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

  • Evaluates the risks faced by the company and use this information to find solutions that will mitigate the threat. These security hazards can be wide ranging, from theft and vandalism to environmental disasters.

  • Ensure facilities are compliant with all applicable security regulations.

  • Develop and implement security standard operating procedures.

  • Support security programs in CA, NM, and AZ.

  • Planning of risk assessment and analysis.

  • Remain up to date on new threats and opportunities to make necessary changes to policies and procedures.

  • Looks for ways to integrate new security technologies into the workforce. This proactive approach ensures that the company is always at the cutting edge of corporate security, creating an environment that protects people, products, and the company.

  • Available for on-call purposes (weekend/evening escalation handling).

  • Open to domestic travel.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, security, or related field and 8 years of experience with increasing scope, responsibility, and complexity.

  • 4+ years of security management with increasing scope, responsibility, and complexity or 8 + years in a combination of the following: physical security, military/law enforcement/government, corporate risk management, emergency response management, executive protection programs, business continuity programs, insider threat programs, intelligence programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, and explain the present or future needs for proposed security initiatives to senior management.

  • Prior experience in an aerospace or technology start-up company is a plus.

  • Effectively managing multiple KPI's, projects, and initiatives in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Extremely strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex topics and create compelling narratives for various audiences.

  • High level of accountability and ownership - driven and focused self-starter.

  • Strategic mindset - ability to think ahead of where the company is at now and scale teams, product, and processes to ensure business objectives are continuously met.

  • Skilled at using data to influence decision-making.

  • Strong cross-functional partner- able to effectively collaborate with various business leaders, subject matter experts, and decision makers to develop data-driven policies, products, and models to improve performance across all facets of Corporate Security.

  • Strong literacy in Microsoft Office suite.

Physical and/or Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to work flexible hours outside of normal business hours.

  • On-site role

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods.

  • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces.

  • Ability to routinely lift 20-30 lbs. and occasionally lift and move 40 lbs. (unassisted).

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $79,300.00–$121,000.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
